Often at demonstrations in sympathy with the Iraqui and Palestinian peoples I have felt limited by my lack of knowledge of the Arabic language. Arabic is beautiful and has been a language of poetry for thousands of years. I have learned some simple phrases which I am posting here for mutual benefit, learn these and try them on your Middle Eastern friends, they will be amazed at your language skills !
~ ayir : honorific greeting for a man who has made the Haj pilgrimage
~ boos teezee : Good day to you !
~ charra alaik : You look wonderful !
~ cus : How are you ?
~ Gawwad: A young religious person who is loyal to Islam
~ ja-hosh : another word for a person who has made the haj pilgrimage
~ katha ath nan : I support the rights of the Arab people !
~ kul khara! : A beautiful woman..
~ kus : A pretty young lady
~ kus umak : how is your mother ?
~ mamhoon : a brave and handsome fellow
~ mibun: A loyal soldier for the muhahadeen
~ nek ni : Where is the closest restaurant where they serve felafel?
~ sharmuta : young man
~ tellhassee teezee : would you like a drink?
~ yel-la hurry

I am not entirely convinced of the veracity of this overall, and would appreciate confirmation by some native/fluent arabic speakers that these are true translations before we find imc readers causing offence with some obscene terms or something....
cheers
