One of many, many problems

27.12.2005 22:34

This is just one of many problems the UK Indymedia site has. Of course activists are trying to fight against the fools who run this site - and are quickly silenced (hidden). You will find lots of information about the UK site on OTHER Indymedia sites and alternative news sites.

These problems are well documented but the same small group of people keep giving us the same answers, refusing to address the problems we see all too often here.

While Indymedia sites world wide highlight the problems and request and explanation which only falls on deaf and ignorant ears, it makes me wonder how the UK site can truly call itself an Indymedia site.

"Crap on racist indymedia crap typists"

Maybe siteseer should take his/her own advice and crap off.

But seriously, Indymedia does have a real problem with the scale of hiding, not to mention deleting, of relevent and justified articles and comments. It can take a long time to type in a report or comment and to have it hidden or deleted creates a great deal of hatred towards the controllers of the site.

Does Indymedia seriously thinks that it comes anywhere close to anarchist principles? There appears to be a clique of people who are involved in the administration of the site with a smaller core of administrators and moderators. Sounds remarkably similar to a hierarchical/Stalinist/Trotskyite/Marxist party structure, don't you think?

Furthermore, it must be quite easy for the secret services to become moderators on the IM site and influence the direction of the site (at least as easy as they could become members of the SWP central commitee). If you think this is a little too paranoid, well at least consider that IM could fairly be described as anti-establishment or alternative, but I certainly don't think it could be described as being a revolutionary resource and certainly not anarchist.

However, some articles on IM are very interesting and the facility of commenting is excellent. My personal feeling is that only far-right or highly offensive articles and comments should be hidden or deleted. I think this would allow a greater debate on the left and for IM viewers in general that doesn't lose all touch with reality.

NB: I realise that IM moderators volunteer their time for nothing and I think this is a noble deed, however it appears that some faith has been lost in IM by activists due to over-zealous editing.

Sudan Post

28.12.2005 00:27

2weeks ago there was a Post advertising an Oxfam Workshop(centerd on Oxfam's work in Sudan) in Oxford. Yeah, I made a brief critique on Oxfam activities in Africa and their shinny cars plus life style. I'd just come back from Sudan(Africa).

Next day the post was gone-lol! Its not racism but lack of vision and Red neck tendencies!
