Dem senator seeks advice on impeachment

Raw Story has developing coverage of a censure motion being introduced in Congress. If successful, this would be a preliminary to impeaching Bush and Cheney.

Raw Story appear to be first off the blocks again with this news:

...but several other news sites & blogs have picked it up as I write this:

It all started on Sunday night, but the US corporate news sites are still breathing not a word about it yet, including so-called "liberal" CNN, ABC & NY Times.

ABC is instead leading with a hard-hitting story about the afterlife: "Where is Heaven?", with Barbara Walters. :/

Still. We may be having a happier new year than we'd hoped...

Support for impeachment

Conyers is the second most senior member in the House of Representatives, the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, and was a critical player in the Watergate investigation:

More Reps and Senators are also voicing support for impeachment.

Senator Barbara Boxer (Dem):

Rep. John Lewis (Dem):

Other members of Congress are calling for an formal Congressional hearing into the spying charges, but have stopped short of calling for impeachment for now.

Senator Robert Byrd (a senior Republican):

Senator Chuck Hagel (a senior Republican) and Senator Olympia Snowe (Republican):

A Zogby poll released November 4 showed that, when asked if they agreed that, "If President Bush did not tell the truth about his reasons for going to war with Iraq, Congress should consider holding him accountable through impeachment," Americans answered Yes by 53% to 42%.

And that was more than 6 weeks ago. What will the voters be saying after this week's news?

Congressional elections are coming up next year, and nervous congressmen in marginal seats will want to be distancing themselves from Bush, like rats leaving a sinking ship.
