Law Lords ban torture

Today the Law Lords voted to overule the previous decision taken in the court of appeal that allowed....

...evidence obtained under torture to be used against terrorism suspects in court. The torture could not have been conducted on British soil or directly by British agents. However, this ruling led to accusations by leading human rights organisations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights watch which claimed that the British government was advocating the use of torture by less "honourable" regimes.

Today, the 8 Law Lords voted to overthrow this ruling due to its incompatibility to both the U.N decleration on human rights and our very own Human Rights act.

This is a timely decision, especially with the global day of action on human rights coming up on the 10th December. This is a victory for human rights campaigners everywhere.
