The Water Is Rising: We Are All Going to Die

sinisterpenguin | 07.12.2005 15:35 | Ecology | Liverpool

A coach of protests (around 25) made their way alongside many others from Liverpool, down to the Campaign Against Climate Change demonstration in a place called ‘London’.

The day was a brilliant success: the biggest Climate Change Demo Ever and Liverpool was a big part of the movement. A slightly sciencey but nether-the-less important Climate Change Rally proceeded the demo and was well attended with over fifty people. Speakers included Jonathan Neal, lecturers and scientists. Mr Neal was the only speaker who got really excited at the prospect of the demo and he was right to, because the mood was brilliant: angry, determined and excited.

A vast majority of those at the talk were also very excited about the prospect of some action taking place in Liverpool in the near future. We really have to succeed in this campaign if we don’t want Manchester to laugh at us as we swim to work.

The Water Is Rising: We Are All Going to Die, admittedly those to stupid to walk to higher ground may.
Take out a roman map of England, look at either side of the wash, you will see that there was a road on which our Roman invaders could cross the wash, 2 perfectly formed raised stonework roads still exists, one in Brancaster and the other side in skegness, here we see a major 44 feet wide roman highway but absent is a alternative major route around the wash
even the track in to the wash is still there, so it's sensible to assume that 2000 years ago the wash was above water.
futher evidence of this is taken by metal detectorists who at very low tide will venture out on to the wash to harvest roman and anglo saxon coins which can be found in areas which we can only conclude were abandoned villages of the 55-550 ad period, nothing beyond the year 850 has been recovered
however in the last 2000 years the water has risen to cover the whole section of road under the wash by over 40 feet , so the water was rising 2000 years ago or 1850 years before cars were invented, and it is still rising 2000 years later.
Or maybe they built it for a laugh ?

He said die not drown

07.12.2005 20:01

If all the ice melts would there still be land ? I dunno, maybe. Anyway, the 'SinisterPenguin' (and you have to treat any penguin that can type as sinister) didn't say 'The Water Is Rising: We Are All Going to Drown'. As the climate fails more people will likely die of thirst and of hunger than of the direct effects of the seemingly constant hurricanes, floods, ice-storms et al. More people are dying that way now and the ratio will probably be constant even as the numbers geometrically increase. Probably even more people will kill each other in resource wars. I guess that's more why people were marching rather than fear of drowning, although you may be right about the two guys with surfboards in the middle of London.

The really hilarious thing about climate change wiping out humanity is the simple fact we consider ourselves the most intelligent species - and we triggered the event. And I love how politicians say 'we can't switch to renewables in time. If we chose to as a species we could switch to renewables tommorow. All those factories turning out Ipods and cars and bombs and computers spacecraft and other such luxurious nonsensical shit could turn out generators instead. Think about it - we are trading the whole beautiful earth for crap that we don't even like. I hope your kids all like their Christmas presents this year because they will be paying for them for the rest of their lives.

Humanity i love you because
when you're hard up you pawn your
intelligence to buy a drink and when
you're flush pride keeps
you from the pawn shops and
because you are continually committing
nuisances but more
especially in your own house

We've got photographs of men on the moon,
We've got water that is good for us,
We've got coffee that's instantaneous,
We've got buildings that are very tall,
We've got cigarettes that are low in tar,
We've got policemen can tell us who we are,
We can reproduce a work of art,
We've got missiles can tear the world apart,
Good, good, good, good, good, good technology.

99 and a half just won't do

08.12.2005 00:16

With a little bit more effort you could've reached a hundred.

96) Fight Patriarchy
97) Fight On
98) Fight Copyright
99) Fight Silly Lists
100) Fight Me

However, those are copyright and you can't ever use them even though I know you want to.
"Humanity i love you because " is out of copyright eecummings and "good technology" is copyright of the Red Guitars who were two nice a band to sue for a plug. Copyleft my arse. How precious. How capital G Green. Most poets earn less than £2000 a year and most poets are over-paid.

copy-wrong not copy-left

08.12.2005 00:51

You really ought to hold environmental protests in your own town or else they are hypocritical. Assuming government ignore that march as they ignored the far larger anti-war marches then how much damage have those twenty-five coaches done to the environment ? I mean, in terms of penguins, how many extra penguins has your protest cost so far against how many saved ? Just for a day out in London ? Small nationwide protests are just as impressive as large London protests and they reach more people.

Copyleft is vanity publishing. Programmers use it to keep their code from corporate exploitation, but Hallmark aren't going to profit from your doggerel. If anyone was to steal anything you write then you should be flattered enough without demanding a namecheck or recognition. Those are not your ideas and you have no right to assume any legal status over them simply for listing them. Shame on you for wanting to. Copyleft in writing and ideas is the vain brother of greedy copyright. Regardless, I won't allow you to publish your post, I demand Indymedia withdraw it as it infringes on my UK patent for the concept of lists which I filed last year and is still patent-pending.

Patent number 00101789546 (UK) LISTS

A sequential algorithm of different data arranged one point after the other, differentiated by an unique indicator such an ascending number or letter sequence such as the alphabet. The list may be written down on the back of an envelope, electronically tabulated or rendered by a browser, or can be used theoretically to evaluate or display any information.

copyright or wrong...

08.12.2005 11:19

For the (legal) record the e.e.cummings poem is not out of copyright - copyright is held for 70 years from the end of the year of the autjor's death, not from the year the poem was written. You may not agree with it, but I suspect that the cummings estate would!

08.12.2005 14:26

70 years after the authors death ? Really ? I thought in Europe it was 50 years after the publication of the work. Poems breathe longer than poets do after all. However, I really don't grudge EE Cummings estate any money and they can post here suggesting suitable renumeration then they can have it.

70 years

09.12.2005 13:15

No, it's 70 years. It used to be 50 years from the author's death (never from publication) but it was increased to 70 a few years ago.

Not that

Not that I actually think that the cummings estate are going to be trawling through indymedia and fuming about unauthorised appearances of poems, of course. But nevertheless...

95 years for 'Corporate Authorship' - and rising

09.12.2005 20:11

You are right, it is getting worse. The increase was due to the Bono law in the US. Sonny Bono never did an original thing in his life, his whole over-paid career was lifted from the ideas of earlier musicians. Why can't the estates of the early Blues musicians in sue all the rock n roll singers estates for copyright infringement ? Artists should be paid for their art as they create it, not long after they are dead. The free flow of ideas is what stimulates progress and all creativity involves theft from outside influences. It's not about artists anyway, it's about corporations - "corporate authorship" gets another 25 years extra, up to 95 years, and they purchase and license artists rights.

My life just got so much more illegal.

LevelsNotTheDanger

16.12.2005 08:47

It is not sea levels which are the main danger. Throw away those posters, you
have been diverted from the real danger which approaches every minute.

All over the world the melting ice is releasing pressure that kept plates from
moving. At present there are 5 volcanoes, mainly in the south that could
erupt. The Pakistan earthquake and the asian tsunami may have been caused
by moving plates that are released by melting ice

Antarctica has not had an earthquake for millions of years, all of the plates
connecting to it WILL move as the ice melts there. One of these plates
is the one going up the center of the Indian ocean.

The connection between global warming and imminent danger is much more
subtle than sea level changes.
