news on peace activist milan rai in prison

rikki | 19.11.2005 00:20 | London | South Coast

last november in the run-up to the assault on fallujah, author and activist milan rai sprayed anti-war slogans and poured fake blood on the foreign office building in whitehall. found guilty of criminal damage, he has refused to pay compensation of £2000. now he is in prison and we should support him.

milan argued in court that what he did was morally and legally justified in response to the impending assault on fallujah, where we now know many civilians were targeted by troops armed with chemical weapons.

but a hastings magistrate sentenced him to 28 days in prison. an earlier indymedia article stated that he was in limbo as no prison would accept him as he refused to give his date of birth. today i have received information from the organisation that he founded (voices in the wilderness uk) giving his prison address as follows:

milan rai
hmp lewes
brighton road
lewes
east sussex
bn7 1ea

activist dave rolstone wrote: "i know from experience how welcome correspondence is, so lets flood his cell with colour"

a large amount of mail (preferably colourful postcards) will also let the prison authorities know that people are caring for him on the outside, and will send a signal for them not to mistreat him during his stay. prisons can be the most brutal of places.

please take a little time and make the effort to support milan by sending him something.
