President of Iraq Oil Workers' Federation to tour the UK: Appeal for funds

Loukas | 12.11.2005 21:09 | Repression | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements

Appeal for funds to suppor the Federation of Oil Trade Unions in Iraq: a politically independent, anti-occupation union, opposed to the corporate take-over of Iraq's resources and economy.

Dear friends,

From late November to mid-December, Hasan Juma'a, the president of the Federation of Iraqi Oil Trade Unions (formerly General Union of Oil Employees), will be touring the UK, addressing public meetings and engaging in talks with anti-war activists, human rights lawyers and trade unionists. We are currently organising these events on a shoestring budget, and are asking our firends and supporters, if they can, to help make the tour go more smoothly by donating money.

There are hundreds of supporters of the Iraqi oil unions in the UK, if you all donate just one or two pounds, this will give a significant boost to Hasan Juma'a's tour.

IOF has kindly agreed to let us use their bank account. Please send cheques payable to 'Iraq occupation focus' to:

Ach, I'll post you twenty quid anyway while I still have it. Looks like you'll need it...

“The cabinet has already decided to allow foreign majority share ownership of Iraqi banks and foreign investment and ownership in downstream oil, including refineries,” (Chalabi) said.

"In January 2005, Chalabi cut a deal with his former oil minister's father, a Shia power broker, and rode that religious ethnic vote back into office. Chalabi landed himself the post of Second Deputy Prime Minister and, in addition, the tantalizing title of interim oil minister...But Chalabi had learned his lesson: don't mess with Texas, or the Texan's favorite cartel."
