Dover live exports demo

Jon | 10.11.2005 19:55 | Animal Liberation | South Coast

WITH exports of live sheep resuming from Dover Harbour in Kent, monthly demos are being held by animal welfare campaigners.

There is a info line on 01304 204688 and the next protest is scheduled to happen at Dover Harbour on Sat December 3, between 12 noon and 3pm.
Recent shipments have invovled a 'Fitted Livestock Vessel', which, according to the Welfare of Animals in Transport Order (WATO), means that when using one of these type of ships, the time spent during the crossing (for the animals) is classified as "Neutral Time" - ie counts neither as journey time or rest time.
It is only capable of carrying around 5,000 sheep, which have to be unloaded from the carrier trucks and individually walked onto the vessel.
