Only the Mass Media tells you that this fact is significant. There are ALWAYS humans to be bought, regardless of creed or 'colour'. Blair's Mass Media works precisely because it chooses which voices you get to hear. In a world of intelligent people, this tactic would be self-defeating, since it would be evidence that the arguments put forward, by being entirely one-sided, were quite clearly false.

Sorry, if you rely on the Mass Media to get your information, the last thing you can be called is intelligent. Instead, you are the exact equivalent of those simple-minded humans in the past whose world outlook was solely informed by their weekly trip to their church/temple/whatever.

Channel 4 news DOES NOT EDUCATE YOU. BBC news DOES NOT EDUCATE YOU. The newspapers MAY bring certain facts to your attention, but ALWAYS with an agenda, and an intent to manipulate. Only if you are fully aware of the methods of media manipulation, and are always able to spot the techniques in use in each news broadcast, or newspaper article, can you begin to separate useful information from pure mind poison.

The main problem most normal people have is getting to grips with just how wicked the system actually is, and how far it will go to achieve its objectives. Why? Because normal people are fundamentally decent, and have the greatest difficulty comprehending the level of wickedness employed by those in power. Such comtemplation tends to lead to depression, and sensibly most want to avoid this state. However, when things are this far gone, NOT THINKING/ACTING will allow very real events in our future to create depressing circumstances of the very worst kind.

With respect to Blair's current extermination of our Human Rights, it is sad to consider that media manipulation means that most people aren't even aware of the issues. Believe me, most hear "hold people WITHOUT CHARGE for 90 days" as "hold people (under a charge) for 90 days". The legal signficance between the two is a subtlety that flies over people's heads. Indeed, I doubt whether more than one in 100 here could give a good account of why ANY extension of the period of holding people without charge represents such horrific danger to the very foundations of our society.

Blair's real best weapon is the ignorance of the population that empowers him. He has achieved this by making everyone feel smarter in proportion to the amount of Mass Media propaganda they swallow. On some trash TV program, Michael Gambon was pointing out how smart he was compared to z-grade celebs, because he watched "Panorama". Yeah, I know it is a pathetic example, but heaven if this does not perfectly represent Blair's "everyman". A nation of dribblers convinced that they are so much better informed than their descendants, because they sit in front of the 'idiot box' watching news shows carefully constructed by their masters.

Again, I will remind people that a few years back, there was a proposal to introduce "media studies" as a standard class in secondary schools, so that most kids would be educated in the methods of media manipulation, and would then be able to bring critical facilities to any mass media they encountered in the future. You can guess how quickly this proposal was shot down (along with those for teaching ALL kids their full legal rights, skills and methods in argument and debate, and a full understanding of the mechanisms of government).

Given the state of affairs in Britain, it is impossible to imagine Blair losing.

Tough new anti-terrorism laws are needed to defeat determind terrorists who will stop at nothing to cause carnage and mayhem! Try tellingl the survivors and relatives of victims of the July 7th bombings that civil liberties are far more important than protecting peoples lives! By the way it is also a civil liberty to be able to travel on a bus or train or go about ones everyday business without the fear of being blown to bits or horrically maimed by some insane terrorist gang!

Will do voice of reason il tell the families of those 70 or 80 dead if you tell the families of the 100,000 Iraqis that have died as a result of the Iraq war that they were killed for US/UK interests.

Also try telling the innocents already affected by the old terror laws and the ones that are gonna be affected by the new ones not to hate Britain. See if it works.

These terror laws are what they say they are. They terrorise teh shit out of dumbass people who feel they have to be afraid of the Muslim next door coz hes been randomly searched by police and his house has been raided, and they divide comunities and cause isolation. I thought that the Regulation of Investigatory Powers bill made it an offense to refuse to disclose keys to encrypted information on your PC. Why then is it, that Blair puts forward (apart from his nebulous scaremongering 'police evidence'), the fact that it takes the police ages to crack hard drives belonging to terrorist suspects as a reason for his 90 day proposals? Twilight is right there's never any effective scrutiny of anything this serious in the media. There is de facto censorship by ommision of facts, and manipulation by one-sided pseudo debate as always.

I remember reading Duncan Cambell's War Plan UK book in the 80s about the UK govt's civil emergency plans in the event of a nuclear war with the USSR. He made the excellent point that a nuclear deterrent isn't effective if you can't keep control over the population in the aftermath of nuclear war. China can do that. America can probably do that (the president can give FEMA pretty much total executive power and power to detain everyone indefinitely - which was what happened in NO once it was declared an emergency zone).

In Britain IIRC the civil emergency plans relied on an illegal martial law - now with this new legislation, I think we're seeing unofficial whitehall policy being codified - to create concentration camps in the advent of large scale social unrest. Blair is doggedly determined to upgrade Trident - when do you hear that depressing fact mentioned in the stupid media chatter about his legacy and his final term ambitions? There is no point in a deterrent that can't be used. There is no strategic advantage in nuclear war without a police state.

Violent rioting like that in france could happen here and I would damn well support it if UKUSA nuked Iran. No wonder the capitalist political elite is less interested in democratic politics than ever.
