Anti-Fascist Benefit in Leeds THIS FRIDAY

Auntie | 08.11.2005 16:08 | Anti-racism | Sheffield

An 80's tribute night and a benefit for militant anti-fascism in West Yorkshire.

REMEMBER THE 80'S?

A night dedicated to alternative music from the 1980's and a benefit for militant anti-fascism in West Yorkshire.

Dig out your 80's threads (or your mum's and dad's) and dance the night away to the sounds of the 1980's, from Kraftwerk to Killing Joke, and everything in between.

There'll be a prize for the best fancy dress, a raffle, and plenty to drink. And you'll be helping to combat organised fascism in West Yorkshire.

Venue: Hanover Square squatted social centre at 34 Hanover Square, Leeds.
Time: From 7.00pm
Suggested donation £2

Militant anti-fascism is when socialist herberts attack a hugely lesser number of nationalists. Not-quite-so-militant-but-still-makes-me-feel-hard-anti-fascism is when there are too many nationalists (i.e. a similar number to the antis) and the same socialist herberts stay behind their crash barriers and attempt to charge (and only at this point, mind) when there are far too many police in front of the barriers for them to break through.

Apology

13.11.2005 11:20

The organizers of this event regret that it was not allowed to go ahead, we are very sorry for those who were disappointed and inconvenienced (as we were ourselves.) With less than an hour's notice, the venue telephoned us to inform us that they were no longer prepared to host the event, and with no alternative venue available at such short notice we had no choice but to cancel the event and redirect people to The Common Place.

Police harrasment

13.11.2005 14:58

We Did not even get as far as that, down from the Leeds court near the over bridge we were stopped on the back street by a plain clothes white police estate car, we had noticed it following us for a while as we came around the corner without warning the car screeched up at the side of us and put on it's blue police light strobes concealed in the cars lights, at first we thought we were going to be attacked until two officers who had photography equipment with them shouted at us to stay where we were, and my buddy martin had a ashma attack, within seconds, yes seconds a police van and a police car had rolled up to join them and we were searched,i had a printout of the hanover square fundraiser in my bag and some smoke...major crime stuff !
I had about £15 worth of canabis resin and I have now been reported for drugs offences.
My solicitor has told me he is confident he can get me away with a caution or at the worst a spot fine if I admit having the drug, which I havn't yet !
to be truthful I was caught bang to rights and as I dont want my parents to find out I will take the caution or fine.
what was more worrying was the way the police were using a secret police car to spy on us and the fact that the officers asked US if we were on our way to hanover square, when my friend got a bit cocky with the arrogant police and refused to tell them they called in the harrasment squad in a police van and a police car, Martin was cleared to leave as he had nothing but 3 tins of crap lager on him, however they did make him pour away the open tin, how petty of the female clan of the police !, Martin was able to use his mobile to photograph the police spy car with it's secret blue lights hidden in the rear light clusters, hope the picture uploads.
What was the worst part, other than the drugs charge, was the fact that we knew we were been followed by the police spymobile and the fact they were taking our pictures, I would have flashed for them had I known, any way, they like taking my picture so here is theirs.

Picture, the secret police car with its secret blue lights as the police put me in the back of the van for refusing to play ball.
