Doc Jazz, prolific writer of protest songs from the Netherlands, has released a song called "Such a Shame", about the eleven victims who died in the fire at Schiphol airport recently. By clicking on the link, the song can be streamed, or downloaded as a free mp3.
"Doc's latest song, "Such a Shame", is dedicated to the recent disaster at Schiphol airport, where fire broke out in the detention block where people are usually kept to await their deportation from the country for their lack of legal documents. The reasons how and why this disaster occurred are still unclear, but from a humanitarian point of view this tragedy forces one to question the subject of how people are dealt with in general, when they try to seek better living standards by entering the countries of the so-called "First World" ...

Lyrics:
Its a Shame
Such a Shame
He was just an average man
Looking for a brighter day
He tried so hard to do everything right
But things just wouldn't go his way
He took his chance and went out one day
Just to meet his fiance
He didnt know that his luck had turned
they took him in a blizzard raid
The world we live in is so unfair
Some people never even get a chance
While others get to go everywhere
When they call you illegal there's no way to advance
But it's a shame, such a shame
Civilization is just a name
Caught like a villain he sat in his cell
Trying to accept his fate
He promised her he would do his best
But it turned out to be too late
A fire burned down his prison cell
And he would never breathe again
Eleven souls in a living hell
How can this tragedy ever be explained?
The world we live in is so unfair
Some people never even get a chance
While others get to go everywhere
When they call you illegal there's no way to advance
But it's a shame, such a shame
Civilization is just a name
