Familys of Police victims march in London.

Guido | 29.10.2005 20:01 | Repression | Social Struggles | London

The wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, children,
cousins, grandparents and friends of those who have died at the hands of
the British Police and legal system gathered in London today to remember
the dead.’
I have not bothered to caption the pics below as they speak for themselves.

A national newspaper recently pointed out that 30 innocent people have been shot by the Police yet not a single cop has been convicted. Those are just the shootings which on the whole are rare. Also present were the familys of those who have died in custody or in hospital due to Police/Prison Service action/neglect.

Around 150 people were there for the demo to support the familys. This is piss poor when you consider recent events. This country is well and truly sleep-walking it's way into a dictatorship.

Bad Guys

It's a tragic state of affairs to consider that the police are now officially the bad guys. To paraphrase shrub, every copper now has to make a choice - are you with the community or are you one of the crooks? Think back to why you joined the force - to defend crooked cops and politicians? or to fight crime. look within your soul. you know what you have to do.

Sickening

It is a true statement.

Why is it at high crime areas (poor run down areas) the cops only show their faces after the crime has been committed. And why is it that in relatively safe areas (rich places) the cops are there on a 24 hour basis. Lets see. Now chances are that the safe areas are so safe because of 24hr cop presence. But then why arent that many cops placed in high crime areas? Poor citizens dont count for the government coz they arent responsible for electing them. Its the financeers, the celebs and the media (the rich) who are responsble for telling the people who to vote for and thus it is them who are gonna get all the protection they need. You scrub my back....

at a guess its more to do with the underlying causes of crime being more intense in poorer areas, rather than cops being a deterrent in the richer ones.

Sure I agree with that statement however if say there wasnt so much policing in richer areas dont you think say muggers etc would target the more rich in order to obtain more riches. Any1 in their right mind would but its too difficult for them coz theres too much policing whereas the poorer areas are left in chaos by the police coz they dont value those people. And another point. I dont claim poliing would stop crime, as long as there are people who are being exploited and are given the choice of a 3rd world life, or death there will be some who will turn to crime, so definately the most important issue must be the social structure of society and the vast innequalities of wealth distribution.
