Melbourne, Thursday 20 October, 2005: A phalanx of "secret agents" delivered a written briefing to Premier Steve Bracks at Parliament House today to tip him off to potential "seditious activities" at a planned demonstration for civil liberties on Saturday.
"Intelligence" agents from the shadowy Bureau for Research into Activities Constituting Kriminal Sedition (BRACKS) delivered a letter to the Premier, warning that Victorian citizens may contravene the Commonwealth Crimes Act by "urging disaffection against the Government of the Commonwealth" at Saturday's rally.
"Our intelligence suggests that certain individuals disaffected with Premier Bracks and other State and Territory leaders will gather at Parliament House at 1pm on Saturday 22 October," said an agency spokesperson.
"It is believed that the source of this disaffectation is Mr Bracks' agreement, at the request of the Howard Government, to pass legislation to allow Victorians to be detained without charge for up to 14 days."
The agents attempted to quell potential seditious activities by displaying large placards which read "JUST TRUST US", "NOTHING TO SEE HERE" and "THERE IS NO RALLY ON 22/10 AT 1PM".
