A woman in the United Arab Emirates was sentenced to be given 150 lashes by a Shari'a court, says Amnesty INternational

According to Amnesty, the woman is to be flogged after it was reported to the police that she could be pregnant. She was then made to take a pregancy test and is accused of become pregnant outside marriage. She is expected to be flogged after she has given birth and after the baby has been weaned.

If you can, write a letter of protest to the UAE embassy in London, at:

And so many oppose military action to liberate such countries.

And so many people on here strongly oppose military action to liberate such countries from such harsh, brutal, evil regimes, like you did over Iraq! So on one hand you call on western governments to crack down on such regimes, while on the other you condemn western governments when they actually do something about such evil regimes!

Believe it or not, there ARE other ways of dealing with violence and repression than through violence. In Iraq, an average of 50 people are dying a day. One Iraqi said on Newsnight last night that he wanted the whole world to know that the situation there now is far worse than it was under Saddam. The G8 countries are upholding this repression all around the world through trade, and in particular the arms trade. You only have to look at the DSEi (one of the biggest arms fairs in the world, held in the UK in September) exhibitor list this year, which, surprise, surprise, included the UAE. Link; -

The UK can go from selling arms to a country one minute, and deciding they want to 'liberate' the people there the next. You can't honestly believe that our government invaded Iraq because they cared one bit about the Iraqi people?
