99% YES in Iraq

William Bradford | 18.10.2005 00:52

Saadam does not believe it.

I DON'T BELIEVE IT
I DON'T BELIEVE IT

Saadam always got 99% in his elections.

Now we have 99% "YES" in the constitutional voting in Iraq.

Is this not a bit embarrassing for the democracy shouters?

Ah well, all's well that ends well>

Get a life for yourself.

We are in Iraq bringing democracy to the masses of brown people.

The more democracy the better.

99% sounds good to me.

It's just another way.

Democracy is just another way of controlling and exploiting people. Most democracies are nothing more than serial dictatorships.

Democracy is not something which is achieved by bullets, bombs and imperialism.

64 per cent turned out to vote though!

18.10.2005 08:50

Given that 64 per cent of the Iraqi population turned out to vote, it would be quite likely that most of those who didn't bother to turn up to vote disagreed with the consititution and could be considered a no vote! Therefore minus the one per cent who voted against the constitution it can be concluded that 63 per cent of Iraqis back the new constitution! That is democracy in action.

By the way the elections are not over yet, in December the Iraqis get to vote on a new Parliament. I don't know why you people keep knocking the progress being made towards democracy in Iraq! No democracy can ever be perfect as it is impossible to please all the people all of the time, but the democracy which has been set up in Iraq is as good a democracy as in any democratic country! Iraq can either go forward towards peace, prosperity and freedom or it can go backwards if the insurgents have their way. As the turnout of 64 per cent shows the insurgents do not have the backing of the vast majority of the Iraqi people, nor do they represent them. On the contrary the vast majority of people killed by the insurgents of the past two and half years have been fellow Iraqis.
