West Midlands Animal Action | 11.10.2005 19:49 | Animal Liberation | Ecology | Health | Birmingham

Sunday 16th October is Global Day of Action against McDeath, to mark World Food Day. Protests will be held all round the globe on this day, to highlight their unhealthy food, pollution, exploitation of workers/children, depriving the third world of food and of course the mass murder of billions of animals every year.

BRUM McD`s TOUR & PROTEST - meet 12 noon

We plan to distribute leaflets and demonstrate outside every McDestruction store in Birmingham City Centre. If you don`t know Brum, McDisease have stores all over the place, all of them in very busy pedestrian areas!!

Campaigners will meet up at 12 noon, at the bottom of McDevastation ramp into The Pallasades Shopping Centre(above New Street Station). Please bring banners, placards, whistles, horns, your friends etc. Use your imagination and make some colourful banners and props that will catch the attention of the masses in Brum. Leaflets will be provided.

We hope this protest will attract not only animal rights campaigners, but also environmentalists, human rights, anti-capitalists etc from across Birmingham & beyond - anyone that cares about anything hates McDomineering, power hungry multinationals!!

Mobile number on the day will be 07952 561652 (be sure to make a note of this number in case you`re late). For more details, email  wmids_animalaction@yahoo.co.uk

If you can`t get to Brum, why not demo McDeath in your own town. More details about the campaign against McDonalds can be found on the McSpotlight website  http://www.mcspotlight.org/

Can you back up your claims?

12.10.2005 08:38

Quote : "Mc Donalds kill animals, people and the planet."

Erm no they don't personally kill animals they get there meat from official meat distirbuters the same a supermarkets and other food shops do.

Kill people ???? Come where is the evidence for this?
Kill the planet??? Again where is the evidence for this?

You make prejudicial statements based on rumours and myths. Then condemn others who use rumours and myths like politicians and governments.

Maybe you should do your own research then...

Justice Bell's Verdict
19th June 1997

Key quotes from the Judgement
Nutrition
In my judgement a diet high in fat (including saturated fat) and animal products, and low in fibre, sustained over very many years, probably does lead to a very real risk of heart disease in due course.

... the small proportion of McDonald's customers who eat McDonald's food several times a week will take the very real risk of heart disease if they continue to do so throughout their lives, encouraged by the Plaintiffs' advertising.

... I do find that various of the First and Second Plaintiffs' advertisements, promotions and booklets have pretended to a positive nutritional benefit which McDonald's food, high in fat and saturated fat and animal products and sodium, and at one time low in fibre, did not match.

Advertising
... the sting of the leaflet to the effect that the Plaintiffs exploit children by using them, as more susceptible subjects of advertising, to pressurise their parents into going to McDonald's is justified. It is true.

Animals
... the First and Second Plaintiffs are culpably responsible for cruel practices in the rearing and slaughter of some of the animals which are used to produce their food...

Employment
The Second Plaintiff does pay its workers low wages, thereby helping to depress wages for workers in the catering trade in Britain. To this extent the defamatory charge in the leaflet is partly justified.

The Mc libel two lost their court case

12.10.2005 16:57

If you didn't know the Mc Libel 2 lost their court case which was won against them by Mc Donalds. The judge in the case agreed that the claims in their leaflet were over the top and exaggerated. As for Mc Donalds food being unhealthy, no one is going to eat nothing but fast food throughout their lives. Fast food is meant as a snack, to fill you up and keep you going between main meals, not as the major meal of the day!

Just face it the people who hate Mc Donalds are vegan fanatics. They don't have widespread public support. And while if we all adopted a strict vegan diet we would be much healthier, this can only be achieved slowly not by picking in individual meat outlets and demonising them. The Mc libel two could also have avoided the libel case altogether if they had made a generalised leaflet about meat consumption in general, which would also have got their message across better.

If Pamphlets are printed and copyrighted to US group, then McD's Can't sue in UK

12.10.2005 21:10

You can get around Libel Laws in Britian, by copyrighting the Pamphlets with US based websites, thus making the brochures subject to US civil law and not British Civil Law. It would be easy, print the anti-McDonald's flyers here in the US, and ship them over to the UK for distribution.

My old American friend,

Are you seriously suggesting that because the leaflets are from America then the person handing them out in the UK will somehow not be liable under UK liable laws? Consider and discuss the legal realities of this.

Analyser, you are just trying to justify sitting in your armchair by nit-picking when if you wanted to you could do research, not take things quite so literally to justify your scepticism, and who knows, even take action to make the world a better place. Alternatively, stay sitting and take up some sport that's not stirring it on here.

don't bother analysing this
