FILM on Thurs 13th: The Oil Factor - Behind the War on Terror",

OSTWC (published by eileen) | 09.10.2005 13:09 | Anti-militarism | Terror War | Oxford

This will be shown on Thursday 13 October, in the Panel Room, Oxford Town Hall, followed by a discussion.

Did you know that:
- At the current rate of production, North America and Western Europe will
run out of oil in 2010? -Almost 1/2 million US military personnel are
deployed overseas near oil fields and oil routes? -The US military
deployment in Afghanistan and Central Asia blocks China and Russia from
accessing oil and natural resources they desperately need for their
economies?

The Oil Factor: Behind the War on Terror", a film highly acclaimed by
activists across North America, explores the threat these chilling facts
pose to global peace and stability. Now you have a chance to see this very
important film yourselves! The Oxford Stop the War Coalition will screen it
at the next Anti-War Discussion meeting. The meeting will take place in the
Town Hall (Panel Room) this coming Thursday, October 13, at 7:30 p.m.
Everyone is welcome. The film must start at 7:30 sharp to allow time for
discussion afterwards.

The "Oil Factor" is based on 3 months of research in Iraq, Pakistan, and
Afghanistan by Swiss filmmakers Gerard Ungerman and Audrey Brohy. It
assesses the results of the US led attacks on Iraq and Afghanistan and
exposes the high human costs of those blatant acts of imperialism. The
analysis provided of the broader geo-strategic implications of the invasion
and continuing occupation of these sovereign states is certain to alarm
anyone who has noticed the increasingly bellicose rhetoric directed toward
Iran in recent months. This is no light-hearted Michael Moore style
production. It is filled with facts and figures, illustrative maps and
graphs, original footage shot in Afghanistan and Iraq, and interviews with
prominent figures. Among those interviewed are Zbigniew Brzezinski, Noam
Chomsky, Gary Schmidt (Director of the Project for the New American
Century), Ahmed Rashid (best selling author), and the Pentagon's Karen
Kwiatkowski.

We hope to see you Thursday at 7:30 p.m. sharp. There is no charge but
donations will be gladly accepted to help defray expenses.
