The Art of Peace

Aikido Activist | 07.10.2005 23:04

An introduction to the martial art of Aikido, and a quick thought on its new direction - out of the dojo, and into the world

Aikido was a martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba, one of the world's foremost martial artists of all time. He developed the art as a way of making peace. There are no winners or losers in Aikido, only partners. He removed all damaging moves from the art in the wake of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Our time is one where materialism is seen as the most important value. Fighting that is not only a material process, it is also spiritual. We need spiritual regeneration to go hand-in-hand with our political resistance to hyper-power.

We must cure the world of this disorder.

We must be tough on nuclear weapons and tough on the causes of nuclear weapons: the idea of winning and losing at the centre of capitalism and the global war economy.
