Stirling Palestine Solidarity Campaign has first victory

sam | 04.10.2005 23:36 | Education | Repression | Social Struggles

Since this post, the SPSC has managed to get the motion passed through SUSA senate.

The way that SUSA works is that once passed through senate it has to go for a referendum. Now the student body will decide if the SU students union will build links with Birziet University in the occupied territories of Palestine. The most controversial part of the motion read "that SUSA publicly condemns the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestine, the illegal wall and illegal settlements within Palestinian territory."

Oli, who visited Palestine during the summer, commented on the victory. "It was just great how many people actually voted in favour of the motion dispite of expectations. With this much support the outlook for the referendum looks good. Hopefully we can provide proper support to our fellow students in palestine and bring about justice to the palestinian people."

The referendum on the motion will happen on the 18th of September.

sad day

If they refuse contact with Univeristies in Israel on political grounds can we apply for that SUSA (whatever it is) to refuse also contact with Russia because of what they are doing in Txetxenia, to refuse contact with Spain because of what they do in the Basque Country, and to refuse contact with other British Universities because of what their government is doing in Iraq and their Northern Ireland occupation?

Only a suggestion

The Stirling University motion passed doesn't refer to cutting off links with Israeli Universities. It refers to support for twinning with a Palestinian University, Berzeit and backing it's Right to Education Campaign.

... The most controversial part of the motion read "that SUSA publicly condemns the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestine, the illegal wall and illegal settlements within Palestinian territory." ...

This says that we live in a zionist media world of spin, where even condemning war crimes committed by israel is controversial ...

Disengage, unplug, divest ...

... no special and chosen criminals please ...

Oh Carl!

"their Northern Ireland occupation"

That's right Carl. We invaded Northern Ireland and forced ourselves on the Protestant majority who wanted to stay part of the UK. Then we had the temerity to force their own parliament on then, let Sinn Feinn in (once they got rid of the guns), and move all the soldiers out.

Get your facts straight.

Islamic Jihad Video of Beheaded Israeli in Gaza Emerges (Images)

Hazem_Palestinian_beheading_1.jpgA video from Palestinian Islamic Jihad of a beheaded Israeli is being distributed on the internet. The video shows a crowd of Palestinians in Gaza, including children, shouting "Allahu akhbar!" (God is great) as a terrorist takes the head out of a bag and holds it up for the cheering crowd. Jihadi music plays in the background and the crowd is visibly ecstatic.

Visual evidence suggest that the victim may have been killed first, and then beheaded later.
