Now that we all exist in a POLICE STATE!

Mark Wood | 01.10.2005 01:55 | Repression | Technology

The simple fact that the average Joe can afford a cheap video camera has been to the benefit off many a person in difficult and dangerous situations.

Now that we all exist in a POLICE STATE!

How long do you think it will be before they start to use this on us at protest etc?

To stop us recording them beating people up?
Looks like I am going back to film. 

Maybe this can be used to counteract CCTV cameras?

On the other hand, this technology is obviously in its infancy and probably wouldn't work very well work outdoors where there's lots of ambient light, as opposed to in a dark cinema.

Well there goes the FIT Unit Cameras

An interesting development - if it can be made to work 'in the field' and in a portable fashion then it could also be deployed on demos to counter police cameras (which are also digital) - just wheel it along with the mobile sound system and p*** off the FIT teams (or more likely get arrested for 'interfearing' with police equipment).

However I suspect this one will really be a non-starter in any case - all you'd need to do is use a IR blocking filter or a painted coating on your lens to prevent your camera being blinded by IR light. Sure such a system would work for a couple of years while we play catch-up but technical counter solutions already exist in the marketplace that could probably be adapted for non professional camera users.

I meant to say 'detected by IR' not 'blinded by IR
