Filiberto opposed colonialization of Puerto Ricans by the United States. The island is not an american state, it is a colony of the USA, referred to as a US commonwealth.

Independence leader Filiberto Ojeda Rios was killed on a Puerto Rico national holiday that celebrates the island's independence. Filiberto died aged 72, he had been living underground evading the american government for 15 years. The day he died shows the brutality of state murder, because it was on the national day of “El Grito de Lares”—the outcry of Lares, an 1868 uprising against spanish colonial rule.
— This opened up a struggle for Puerto Rico’s national liberation, first against Spanish and then against US colonialism.

You can see people from all parts of society mourning Filiberto.

"The United States seized Puerto Rico in the Spanish-American War. Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens but cannot vote for U.S. president, have no voting representation in the U.S. Congress and pay no federal taxes."

- PR is a colony of America since Puerto Ricans don't have the same rights as mainland citizens.
- Is it another offshore tax haven for rich Americans to hide their money?

The FBI who murdered Filiberto and are investigating themselves.

Perhaps they thought murder by the american state would not be noticed when half a million people are homeless because New Orleans flooded due to George Bush not funding levee funding, and while Cindy Sheehan's supporters protest in Washington DC.
