Cyclists are being urged by CTC to join an online campaign to open up new rights for off-road cycling.

Act Right Away for your Right of Way

On 11th October, MPs will vote on the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Bill, clauses of which could provide welcome protection for trails and the countryside from the damage caused by motorised vehicles. With a suitable amendment, the Bill could also help clarify cyclists’ ability to claim rights of way, in the same that walkers and horse riders can at present.

CTC Off-Road Policy Campaigner, Richard George, said: “If cyclists were able to claim ‘restricted byways’, in the same way as horse-riders can claim bridleways, we could gain permanent rights to use trails where there is evidence of past cycle use. It takes less than 2 minutes to use our website to join the campaign and you could make a real difference to the future of off-road cycling.”
