20% of global warming is caused by eating meat, 18% by private transport, 65% by power generation. Ditch the meat, never mind the car. Alternative fuel sources and more efficient ways of producing cars continue to be found - and all the oil there ever has been will be extracted and used; nothing anyone can do about it now. Fundamentally we need to put the 130billion tonnes of excess CO2 swirling around the atmosphere back where it won't do any damage - underground. Two things we can all do immediately: - switch to using 100% green electricity - stop eating meat
Good point but where are the numbers from? 85% of global warming gasses are CO2 in UK, these come from: energy industries - 40% manufacturing - 15% transport - 20% residential - 15%
You can play with statistics as much as you like to demonstrate anything. However, global warming is happening. Carbon dioxide contributes. Reducing the 130 billion tonnes (UN figures) in the atmosphere will help, but so will reducing all the other greenhouse gases that we don't talk about, presumably because it's all too difficult. Methane is a major contributor but not being targeted - this comes principally from the way we eat. Try looking at: http://www.earthsave.org/globalwarming.htm
I wasn't disagreeing that global warming is real and that veganism reduces it. Just wondered about the numbers. Cheers for the link. In the UK methane has only 10% of global warming contribution compared to CO2 but then most food is imported....
