Hunting - the facts for all

Baz | 20.09.2005 16:37

Many of us are now coming to the conclusion that the so called ban on hunting has been nothing of the sort. As a regular Sab for the past ten years I thought the ban would mean that apart from a few die-hards most hunting would stop in England and Wales, the reverse is true.

There is now more hunting in my area than before the ban !

The link above leads to a part of the Countryside Alliance website which is their handbook on how to continue hunting. It shows how the CA manipulated the Bliar government into passing a law that was uninforcable and combined it with a PR campaign that attracted even more new hunters.

A full and proper ban must be campaigned for

Countryside Alliance propaganda gets everywhere.

Even, believe it or not, Indymedia.

Hard to believe? See above.

Idiotic interpretation

Foxy, try reading that article again. That was most certainly NOT "Countryside Alliance" propoganda but quite the opposite.

However Baz, you need to be clearer abotu what you might mean. The use of "effective" is scary. That is not (or should not be) how we judge proposals, simply by whether they would be "effective". For that reason you need to be more specific. When I first heard about your new law I wondered about whether it would be effective in terms of perhaps being too diffcult to enforce. After all, it isn't going to be EASY to distinguish between ACTUAL fox hunting and SHAM fox hunting.

I am going to guess that you want to propose making illegal doing anything that looks like fox hunting (that would make the fox hunting ban difficult to enforce). If so, this would require VERY careful consideration to get it just right. An awful lot of people are likley to get scared by the concept of making reasonable actiivty X illegal just because it presents difficulty for the authorities to spot illegal activity Y. Your problem is that while they might think the idea maybe OK in THIS instance (fox hunting specifically) that's a door they don't want opened for other matters. The concept IS scarey.
