NO2ID Take fight to Home Secretary's Town

On the same day that Norwich MP Charles Clarke proclaimed in the Eastern Daily Press that "Big Brother is here already" in response to the many objections to his proposed National Identity Card scheme, NO2ID took it's campaign to his doorstep constituency and pitched up in Norwich city centre for the day, to spread the message that another way is possible.
It is estimated that NO2ID succeeded in distributing about 700 flyers promoting the campaign, and collected many pages of petition signatures to remind local MP Charles Clarke that, whatever he thinks, he is still accountable to the man and woman in the street - whom by the evidence that this IMCer saw are largely against a National ID card - and that our opinions matter.
Those who are in favour of the scheme do very much seem to be in the minority.
The stall itself ended up going downhill (albeit only in location terms), starting in front of The Forum (home of the Look East Studios), then wandered off around the corner, taking in an assortment of Goths, Rockers, Skaters, a few revolutionary Socialist paper sellers, and many random passers by with it along the way, ending up in front of a pitch where a fundamentalist Christian shouted at an indifferent public for a while, whom one NO2ID campaigner managed to persuade (after a lengthy debate) to sign a petition!
The stall also succeeded in successfully hiding a McD sign for a few hours, by virtue of being pitched in front of it, which was a bonus.
The pleasant surprise of the day was the appearance of Norwich Samba Band in front of The Forum, who not only provided all gathered with the perfect soundtrack for a sunny day, but also NO2ID activists with a 'captive' audience for flyering!
About 200 NO2ID flyers done'n'dusted just there then...
No2ID are planning to repeat this exercise next Saturday as well, then hopefully by that time, an indiginous Norwich group should be well on it's way to being founded to keep the Anti ID Card fires burning right underneath Mr.Clarke, until this hairbrained idea of his is well and truly dead and buried.
