Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (September 2) is up at the website
in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00)

This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice of Russia.
From CHINA- N Korea delayed the 6 party talks on nuclear disarmament because of US war games with S Korea and a new human rights envoy. China released a White Paper on arms control and nonproliferation, stating they would never be the first nation to use a nuclear weapon in a conflict. A Palestinian jihad group claimed responsibility for last Sundays suicide bombing, stating it was retaliation for an Israeli raid and expansion of West Bank settlements.
From NETHERLANDS- There is a serious shakeup in Israeli politics, with Sharon being challenged for leadership of the Likud party by Netanyahu- also an analysis that the majority of Israelis support the withdrawals and disagree with the settlers. Strikes against the oil companies in Ecuador continue, as the impoverished citizens demand a bigger share of revenues.
From CUBA- Colombian mercenaries are being hired by the US and Britain to work in high risk jobs in occupied Iraq. A former Honduran government official says that the FBI brought international terrorist Luis Posada Carriles to Honduras last August and protected him there. More journalists have been killed in Iraq since the war began there 2 years ago than were killed during the entire 20 year war on Vietnam.
From RUSSIA- First a report on the daily financial cost of the war on Iraq, which is more expensive in adjusted dollars than the war on Vietnam. Then a commentary on the lack of control that the US has in Iraq, despite huge expenditures and the proposed constitution.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
There are several other streams that work better- Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)-
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- (13.3MB)

--Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron.
