Stop people being forced back to Iraq

Dear Campaigner,

Forced returns to Iraq.


As you may have heard in the news, the government has detained scores of people so that they can be forcibly returned to Iraq. The first flight could be as early as this Bank Holiday Sunday (28 August).

The Refugee Council has been vocal and active in our opposition to this policy. Along with every other organisation who has looked at the situation, from UNHCR, to Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and the Kurdish organisations in Iraq, we have been telling ministers that it just isn't safe.

The government seems more concerned about meeting its target for removals than with the safety of people being sent back. They are destroying the goodwill built up here with the Iraqi community and going ahead with flights while parliament is on holiday.
