MEETING AGAINST ALL DEPORTATIONS.

AGAINST SECTION 9 DESTITUTION.

IN SUPPORT OF OCTOBER 1ST

NATIONAL MARCH IN BOLTON.

Meeting 2-4 pm Saturday September 3rd
Friends Meeting House, Mount St, Manchester Centre

Deportations against migrants, immigrants and refugees are a public scandal. Freedom of movement is a human right. Deprivation of this freedom leads to misery and the destruction of lives.
Asylum seekers have been reduced to second class citizens, living outside the welfare state. They are supported at 70% of income support level and are forcibly dispersed round the country.
Now Section 9 of the 2004 Asylum and Immigration Act is blackmailing failed asylum seekers with children, by enabling those who refuse – “voluntarily” – to return to their country of origin to be evicted from their accommodation. The children are being threatened with being taken into care.
Trade union members – particularly in UNISON – are being asked to collude in these evictions and forced care proceedings. UNISON should support members who do not collude!

However, families seeking asylum in Greater Manchester – led by the Sukulas in Bolton, the Khanalis in Bury and Samina Altaf and her children, living with rickets, in Salford – are resisting both their deportations and the threat of eviction onto the streets.
Victories can be won. As a result of this resistance so far, all 10 authorities in Greater Manchester (who hitherto have supported the disposal scheme in its entirety) have petitioned the Home Office not to enforce section 9. Let our solidarity ensure it is not enforced!
All 3 families are supporting the national demonstration in Bolton on October 1st called by the Sukula Family Defence Campaign.
All anti-deportation campaigns nationally are invited to join in. Travel to Bolton and show your solidarity! The March commences 12 noon at Lever Edge Lane CP School, Bolton BL3 3HP

Come along on September 3rd to the meeting - sponsored by :
National Union of Journalists, Sukala, Khanali and Altaf families, along with the Mansoor Hassan Defence Campaign.
