DESI - Public Meeting
Rishi Madlani, | 11.08.2005 11:53
We are a London based group trying to pull together all the groups who are looking to protest and stop the DSEI Arms Event in September this year. Some early work was done on this at the G8 nd we thank all those who have said yes so far. To facilitate greater co-operation a meeting will be held on Monday the 15th of August at Student Union building at the London School of Economics at 7pm

The best thing about them is their commitment to never ask for money in the work, makes a change from the usual requests for donations.

Disarm DSEI is the only legitimate group campaigning against the DSEI Arms Trade Fair and others should be ignored

Who authorises?

On the other hand I suppose this heavy-handed "not authorised" post could be an attempt to discredit "Disarm Dsei" and sow more dissension among the groups. Either way, I hope someone else who has been active in "Disarm Dsei" will come back with a more reasoned response.

Where do they get off on declaring that they are the authority of protest against DSEI ?
Good luck to the LSE group, my sister is involved with them and I hope they get a lot of visitors to the meeting. Perhaps Disarm DSEI could learn from their inclusive approach ?

We spoke with a number of people at the events surrounding the G8 protests and it was not mentioned to me or any of us that have organised this.

Disarm DSEi s a non heirarchical anti-authoritarian organisation which exists to encourage protest against the arms fair. This message is clearly an attempt to discredit them, probably by somebody at Spearhead.
I am sure that those who have been involved in Disarm DSEi will be delighted to see that protests are being organised and would wish the organisers of this meeting the best of luck.

Nice try!

Disarm DSEi is an organisation and has over 60 supporting groups and individuals involved in it, so how can it possibly be the only group campaigning against the "DSEi arms trade"?

Should be an easy test

Can I suggest that people do not make plans to attend this event as it is not taking place under the auspices of the LSE SU. As far as I can see there is not even any form of meeting room booked.
Best,
