DESI - Public Meeting

Rishi Madlani, | 11.08.2005 11:53

A public meeting to co-ordinate actions against DSEI

We are a London based group trying to pull together all the groups who are looking to protest and stop the DSEI Arms Event in September this year. Some early work was done on this at the G8 nd we thank all those who have said yes so far. To facilitate greater co-operation a meeting will be held on Monday the 15th of August at Student Union building at the London School of Economics at 7pm

Good

I met with this LSE group up in Scotland and was impressed with their approach, they are trying to be very inclusive with a rolling elected committe to ensure fast decision making and trying to encourage those who want to protest but are not sure how.

The best thing about them is their commitment to never ask for money in the work, makes a change from the usual requests for donations.

Not authorised

This is an unauthorised meeting. The Disarm DSEI campaign have not been asked their permission for this meeting to take place.

Disarm DSEI is the only legitimate group campaigning against the DSEI Arms Trade Fair and others should be ignored

Who authorises?

11.08.2005 13:46

Seems a bit of an over-the-top response here. From where does Disarm Dsei derive its authority? Surely if people want to get together and discuss ways of coordinating between the disparate groups, that should be welcomed by everybody.

On the other hand I suppose this heavy-handed "not authorised" post could be an attempt to discredit "Disarm Dsei" and sow more dissension among the groups. Either way, I hope someone else who has been active in "Disarm Dsei" will come back with a more reasoned response.

Who the fuck put Disarm DSEI in charge ?
Where do they get off on declaring that they are the authority of protest against DSEI ?

Good luck to the LSE group, my sister is involved with them and I hope they get a lot of visitors to the meeting. Perhaps Disarm DSEI could learn from their inclusive approach ?

Sorry

11.08.2005 14:35

If agreements had been made to clear all anti DSEI protest with the Disarm DSEI group then I am sorry but nobody told us. I have emailed them requesting they send anyone they like to the meeting.

We spoke with a number of people at the events surrounding the G8 protests and it was not mentioned to me or any of us that have organised this.

Professional wind up

11.08.2005 15:18

Beware. People are being paid to spread missinformation, distrust and basically try to fuck up attempts to organise collectively on a variety of issues. The comment above claiming to be Disarm DSEi is NOT and can not be for obvious reasons.

For ben

11.08.2005 17:12

If only that were true ben, there have been a number of attempts by the Disarm dsei people to take control of other protests. All they were polte enough not to say it in the original post the LSE group was formed by those dissafected by the Control Freak approach used by Disarm dsei.

Come along and support them next week, after all if they are orgnaising protest agaisnt the dsei event they can hardly be mi5 people can they

Please ignore the troll

Perhaps somebody who was actually involved with Disarm DSEi would have ogt the email and URL the right way round.
Disarm DSEi s a non heirarchical anti-authoritarian organisation which exists to encourage protest against the arms fair. This message is clearly an attempt to discredit them, probably by somebody at Spearhead.
I am sure that those who have been involved in Disarm DSEi will be delighted to see that protests are being organised and would wish the organisers of this meeting the best of luck.

Nice try!

"Disarm DSEI is the only legitimate group campaigning against the DSEI Arms Trade"

Disarm DSEi is an organisation and has over 60 supporting groups and individuals involved in it, so how can it possibly be the only group campaigning against the "DSEi arms trade"?

Should be an easy test

11.08.2005 18:37

Well if Disarms Dsei are happy to publisise this meeting on their webage we'll know there isn't a problem won't we !

Kill all arms dealers

These messages are a hoax

12.08.2005 08:58

There is no event organised by the LSE SU being hosted. All previous messages in my name are hoaxes and not posted by me or anyone from the Union trustees.

Can I suggest that people do not make plans to attend this event as it is not taking place under the auspices of the LSE SU. As far as I can see there is not even any form of meeting room booked.

Best,

Rishi Madlani

Disarm DSEi website

Has anybody asked Disarm DSEi to put this on their website? They can't publicise it if they don't know about it.
