Bush's Former Health Secretary: RFID Chips for All Americans :.

Slap another Jesus fish on your SUV for the trip down to the chipping center! Praise Bush! Praise the Lord! Support our troops! Chips for strength!

So, how will the Cult of Death/Evangelical Christians deal with this one?

President Bush's former health secretary Tommy Thompson is putting the final touches to a plan that could result in US citizens having a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip inserted under their skin, The Business has learned.

The RFID capsules would be linked to a computerised database being created by the US Department of Health to store and manage the nation's health records. It could be the precursor to a similar scheme in the UK.

The president's budget for 2006 continues to support the use of health information technology by increasing funding to $125m for pilot schemes.

Thompson, now a director of Applied Digital Solutions, the company that makes the chips, intends to publish the proposal in the next 50 days, by which time he plans to have had a VeriChip inserted in his arm. Thompson believes the capsules could help save thousands of lives every year.

---If you have not read Derrick Jensen yet, I highly recommend all his books, in particular Welcome To The Machine, where he covers RFID chips and the police state. Here is a link to a summary of the book.  http://derrickjensen.org/published.html----

"President Bush's former health secretary Tommy Thompson is putting the final touches to a plan that could result in US citizens having a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip inserted under their skin."

Actually that's not true. Tommy Thompson is a director of the company. He is volunteering to have a chip inserted to publicise the technology in the hope of making more sales (good luck). And...thats it.

Read Jensen's books, read The Corporation, read Marx, read Mein Kampf, then see if you can make simplistic comments about the reality of power used against people and the threat of increasingly centralised techniques for manipulating even greater powers.

The people who are planning chip schemes may be ostensibly doing so for quality of life reasons, but those schemes like so many others that have the potential for abuse will have inneffectice controls and they will eventually be used for alternative purposes.

In the UK we are being told that ID cards will be for checking peoples' identities. However, the government is so far keeping quiet about safeguards that would prevent other information from being connected to the person's identity. It is therefor elikely that what is being touted as an ID card scheme is really a government database on every one of us. If you believe that governments are our benign protectors then that's no big problem. But no such government exists. Those who live by authority and power will use technology to further those purposes.
