leeds and bradford squatting meeting

june summers | 03.08.2005 13:41 | Free Spaces | Repression

this is a call out to anyone involved in any squatting projects in the leeds/bradford area.

we are inviting leeds and bradford people who are involved in any squatting projects; be it homes, social centres, land squats or parties; to a get-together and chat about supporting each other.
recently some of us have felt that squats are getting more shit off cops, and less leeway from courts and councils. some of us have also relied on other squats to come and help physically defend our places from unsympathetic others. we would like to meet together to form an alliance that can offer all sorts of support, from cracking squats, to defending them legally and otherwise, to squat-sit, to provide information to each other.
we are also going to invite someone with specific legal knowledge on squatting in leeds to give us an update.

where? 34 Hanover Square, Leeds
who? anyone involved in squatting in the area, or who is likely to be in the near future
when? 6pm, mon 15th august.

there will almost certainly be food!

please come!

Alt Housing Conference/ Beyond ESF / ASS update

04.08.2005 10:37

Maybe you would be interested in the Alternative Housing Conference 2005 (the small, annual conference looking at issues surrounding housing co-ops and squats - last year it was held at Clays Lane Housing COOP, Stratford, London - an area now under threat from the Corporate Olympic Games ). It will be held around Sept/November. More information about previous events and this upcoming event is available on www.althousing.net. They are looking for speakers on this years theme - "Services that help Housing Co-ops and Squats Achieve their Potential"; looking at peripheral services which help co-ops/ squats achieve their social, environmental and financial goals.

Previous years have featured Chapter 7 on Sustainable development/planning law , Earth ships, Empty Homes Agency and using derelict building, ASS/Wombles and Social Centres, Kebele & Radical Routes, Sandford Housing COOP and the Carbon 60 Project...

Also this is a callout after the Squatters meeting at Beyond ESF. There was supposed to be a list set up with regard to some conference of this nature - what happened - nobody I know was contacted. Perhaps getting involved with this would make more sense as it is already happening.

Oh and Happy Birthday Advisory Service For Squatters - 30 this Year!!!! Birthday Gig happening in October. More details later. ASS will soon be moving to Whitechapel High Street, Angel Alley - it's just taking a bit longer than expected. Once moved there will be time for proper training days for those who wish to get involved. Website contributors always welcome with info/news on land/squatting/eco-house/eviction alert news/updates/stories etc. people have registered on the revamped ( and still working on it ) though only a couple have posted news so far.
