Defend Eucharia and Timeyi Campaign (DETC)

DETC | 27.07.2005 22:35 | Anti-racism | Repression | Social Struggles

On Saturday 30 July 2005, there will be an event organised by the Defend Eucharia and Timeyi Campaign, on Market Street, Manchester at 12 pm. The DETC is campaigning to save the life of Eucharia and her four-year-old son who are threatened with deportation to Nigeria, from where they fled after members of their family were killed.

Eucharia's husband and six-year-old daughter disappeared and have not been seen or heard of since. All deportees to Nigeria are immediately incarcerated, and over 95% of Nigerian prisoners are routinely brutalised and tortured. Eucharia's claim for asylum was rejected by the Home Office and she is seeking to appeal against this decision.

Please support the DETC campaign by turning up on saturday and helping us to leaflet, petition and generate public support for Eucharia and Timeyi. We have collated and sent off over 200 letters of complaint to the Home Office, but we need more letters, more help and more active support. We need to put pressure on these politicians, who care so much for Africa, to let these Africans stay, and not deport them to be raped or tortured.

We hope to see you on saturday.
