By now, you have probably heard that two of our friends have been arrested
and imprisoned in New Jersey. Activists Janice Angelillo and Nick Cooney
have been held in New Jersey for more than 48 hours under $15,000 and
$20,000 bail respectively. They are being charged with an assortment of
crimes including tresspass, vandalism and conspiracy. In addition, Janice
Angelillo's home has been raided by the FBI/JTTF.

Our friends need our help! Please make polite but firm calls to the
following asking that both Janice and Nick be given vegan food and asking
about their general welfare. It is important that these calls are not
viewed as threatening or harassing in any way, as Janice and Nick will
have bail reduction hearings on Monday.

"FOR WIDE DISTRIBUTION:

Janice Angelillo was picked up by the NJ State Police for allegedly
spray-painting. Her bail has been set at $15,000 cash. It is believed
she is being targeted for political reasons. As she is the treasurer
of the Central New Jersey Industrial Workers of the World and an avid animal
rights activist. She is presently being held in Essex County Prison. She was
not given her phone call until two days after being arrested.

At some point tonight, police arrived at her house in Highland Park,
NJ and detained all the people in the house - Janice's husband Ted,
another housemate, and a few friends who were with them. According to Ted,
they have currently been detained for several hours by officers from what seem
to be officers from the New Jersey Joint Terrorism Task Force. The last update
is that the house is being raided and searched, apparently with legitimate
warrants, as well as the vehicle of Janice's housemate. Further updates will be
released as things become more apparent. This is being sent out by the request
of the people currently being detained. They are asking that people be kept
aware of the situation and spread the word.

Janice is still being detained, and people can help by giving money to help
free Janice. She has never missed any court appearance in the past, and is very
responsible. Over the next two weeks we will be hosting several benefit shows
to return the money raised. People can also help by calling the prison at 973
274 7500, and requesting that Janice be given vegan food.

Counter-terrorism police descend on Highland Park

HIGHLAND PARK ó Heavily armed members of the New Jersey State Police
Counter-Terrorism Bureau in bulletproof vests and helmets secured a house on
Parker Road last night, as authorities sought a search warrant in an ongoing
domestic-terrorism investigation.

Capt. Steve Serrao of the counter-terrorism bureau said at the scene last
night that police were unable to release details of the investigation.

But the owner of the house at 1625 Parker Road said he was assured by
authorities the incident was related to the arrest of a second-floor resident
on criminal-mischief charges in Essex County on Friday night and not to any
international incidents or threats.

Residents of the second-floor apartment are members of the animal-rights group
Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC), said Dan O'Donnell, the building's
owner.

O'Donnell said he has seen people with protest signs entering and leaving the
house, but there's never been any trouble with the residents.

Police were holding about a dozen people on the home's rear deck last night as
authorities awaited a judge's OK to search the premises.

In a separate case, six members of SHAC are facing trial on charges of
conspiring to threaten and terrorize employees and customers of Huntingdon Life
Sciences, a Britain-based drug-testing firm that uses animals in its
laboratories in Franklin.

The Highland Park Police Department assisted the state police in last night's
operation. A K-9 unit also was on the scene.

I was one of the people detained, and it needed to be pointed out that the
officers, notably the heavily-armed goon squad that stormed the house, did not
have a warrant to enter. The warrant was not issued until later that evening.
We were detained at 7:15 PM and did not get released until approximately four
hours later. There were no other arrests. Janice's bail was set at $15,000 with
no ten percent, but it looks like that money has been raised, and it is highly
likely we will not see that money returned. A court date for her is scheduled
for tomorrow.
