Unconfirmed reports (Reuters) suggest a nail bomb exploded at Warren Street station.

You can't get the staff these days...

Latest from the BBC says that the bombs had detonators without any explosives. Doh! Looks like the mighty avengers have done a botched job...

What do these Al Qaeda wannabes have in common with the BNP? Both want us to think that Britain is crawling with thousands of super-trained terrorist fanatics. Both want to start a hate war.

Come on London - are we really going to let these people scare us?

Man wanted

Reports are the police are seeking a "dark skinned" man wearing a blue top with a hole in the back. If anyone is arrested we may need to organise an immediate support group to help him. If anyone is in London and can help with this please let me know on the following number

I would be scared if I lived in London. It's funny because it seems to me that the notion of Al Qaeda that so many hold has a tenuous basis. I watched a program on the BBC(they never lie) about how Al Qaeda didn't exist-just a name given to Osama Bin Laden+ a few mercenaries he hired out for the day to record a video. Anyway, there's undoubtedly growing anger from the Muslim world and the extreme end of the spectrum of acting on that that anger is blowing your self up and trying to inflict as much damage in the country/countries that are oppressing your country/people. To make out like they're wacky crazy religious fundamentalists with a death wish is more than a little naive. Rather than pretend there's no danger we should be making the links between the war on terror and terrorism here. Unfortunately as selfish beings the only way to convince people to act is to make them realise that our government's wars are making the world/this country/our lives in general more dangerous for us. Obviously the danger we face is small compared to that of countries like Afgahnistan, the DRC, Iraq etc. but whatever happened today(I don't know) it is a real danger and is increasing, 7/7 being the perfect example. Another thing, 15 years ago there was a real threat of attacks on the British Mainland when Catholics were being constantly oppressed in Northern Ireland, and oh look, they stopped opressing them so much and the bombing stopped! Now there's a coincidence! Well quite simply it worked, right or wrong makes no difference, the British Government listened to the demands of Sin Fein+the IRA(at least more than they did previously) because they were a physical force. They wouldn't have given them the time of day if they hadn't been militant-and oh look what a surprise, the IRA's pretty much given up its weapons(no attacks on British mainland anyway) and they won't listen to a word they say. That turned in to a bit of a rant but at least it's relevant.

Death to all terrorists!

"Reports are the police are seeking a "dark skinned" man wearing a blue top with a hole in the back. If anyone is arrested we may need to organise an immediate support group to help him"

Why would anyone want to support these terrorist? They should be hanged instead!

At least that's what they'r called when they slaughter Jewish kids

21.07.2005 16:02

"Why would anyone want to support these terrorist?"

Please, not "terrorists" call them Freedom Fighters
You know, like when the Freedom Fighters blow up innocent Israelis...
Why not support the Freedom Fighters that continue to attack London?

They not "terrosrists" they're freedom fighters

I'm not denying that there's a threat

21.07.2005 16:03

...or that there are obvious links with our messed-up foreign policy. BUT you have to keep a sense of proportion. What we're seeing now is "Al Qaeda" trying their very best - and it's frankly not on the scale that the tabloids, the BNP, or the death-cult nerds themselves would have us believe. You're still far more likely to die from passive smoking than get killed in a terrorist attack, and quite a bit more likely to win the national lottery.

I do live in London and I refuse to go about my life being scared over this kind of thing. Neither do I have too much sympathy with my chainsmoking bingedrinking fellow citydwellers keeping themselves awake at night worrying about dying from terrorism.

you people have got to be kidding

21.07.2005 18:34

assuming that these are posts from different people (which seems doubtful) do we really need to have the allegation that this mysterious Al-Qaida is responsible for the tube blasts?

not only is the jury out on what happened a fortnight ago, but as for today's events, who can say?

the information we get is almost preposterous: there were no charges, only detonators! suspects seemed as if "something went wrong" and ran off with wires trailing out of their clothes!

does this sound ridiculous to you? when compared with the brutal perfection of the previous attacks, we are now to believe that these jokers are in the same league? what?

here, since you are all tossing in verdicts without evidence, let me try:

the four "bombers" of the 7th seemed like young men with everything to live for. if you ask me, they thought they were running drugs and on the way to a big pay-off, not wired to blow up! they bought return tickets, paid parking, were in high spirits... supposedly to "fool us?" oh, come now! those men were tricked, they were expendable to some madmen pulling the strings. and until some actual reasonable evidence is shown, why do you assume these Al Quaida quacks are behind it?

as for today, now put on the thinking cap, why on earth would the fools have detonators only? so they could be witnessed by hundreds of people, captured on video and caught? and oh, no doubt these fellows really did plan on blowing up! but that does not have any "resonance" to the earlier attacks, if you ask me. quite the opposite. in the first case, you have some young fools who thought they were making easy money, ending up as unwitting bombers. in the second case you have blokes who wanted to cause harm, caught-red handed. they were set up to take the fall.

well, that's how one cheese-eater sees it! and stand a pint for the soul who actually proves that "radical islamists" are behind this, and not some other sinister people who are adept at running these covert operations.

Britain may be many things, but I think you'll find that it is certainly a democracy.

um.....Boab, Ben Franklin was never a US President. He was the postmaster general for the colony of massachusetts, and helped start the American Revolution. He was also an inventor, musician, anti slavery advocate and statesman.

Strange that. If I could repeat my comment on that thread: talk of the 'fugitives' has already been dropped from corporate media. Do a Google search on 'Operation Kratos' for a possible reason why.

support?

21.07.2005 23:58

I'm sorry, I don't know if I read that right. Did someone say to organize support for the man arrested.

On what grounds? Please enlighten me. Do you know something the rest of us don't? If you don't maybe you shouldn't start calling this a witchunt against brown people. Wait for the facts to come out. Anything else makes you look like a moron. You could potentially be organizing support for a terrorist.

And oh yeah, go get some medication for your extreme case of paranoia.

Ed

Just curious

22.07.2005 00:15

Just curious.

If you got your foot blown off in a bombing on the tube by terrorists who didn't want British troops in Iraq and you also didn't want troops in Iraq would you try to seek revenge on Blair (somehow) or would you seek revenge on terrorists who blew your foot off?

Jerzy Czenjolzk

why so sure

YES BUT SURELY THATS UNLIKELY GIVEN THE BRITISH POLICE FORCES' RECORD WITH TERRORIST SUSPECTS. HOW MANY ACTUALLY GUILTY PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED FOR THE IRA BOMBINGS IN ENGLAND AND HOW MANY DETAINEES WERE INNOCENT?

Why feed trolls?

22.07.2005 06:39

"support" is clearly a troll - if you feed trolls they just keep coming back for more.

BRB

no food for trolls

22.07.2005 13:06

good point.

Anyone that is trying to organize support for an individual accused of a terrorist act, especially when no facts have been brought forth, is a complete dipshit, and not worthy of any self-respecting human being's respect.

This sub-human slime makes indymedia look horrible, and that's hard to do.

I'm done.

Ed

Yeah

22.07.2005 15:30

I have no faith in the police whatsoever. There history of racial discrimination and subsequent beatings/abuse/torture of suspects past and present is well documented as long as you choose not to ignore it. But then they beat all sorts regardless of race. The connection with the Irish is important becasue the policy of internment without trial is an essential part of the war on terror like it was against the IRA resulting in Birmingham Six for example. Assisting the police in the arrest of 'suspects' is more likely to result in impinging on innocent peoples freedoms than do anything to stop the likelyhood of future attacks. The way so many people, including posters on indymedia refer to terrorists as some different species just leads to oppresion. I'm not defending London bombers, I'm not commenting on them at all but the word terrorist is used with out thought and so logic is left behind like a red flag to a bull, in the same way the mob mentality of people caused a paediatrician to be attacked a suspect terrorist is called a terrorist suspect, why does the word terrorist come first? Because it sets of an alarm bell inside our brains and all of a sudden everything politicians/police propose seems like a neccessary evil.

Matt K

terrorism

22.07.2005 19:20

terrorism - using violence against a non-military public in an attempt to coerce a government to change it's policies, or to sway public opinion by instilling fear.

Are you saying that they weren't terrorists?

If you are, you're really stupid.
