Killer-cola linked to London Bomber [update]

In interviews widely reported in the mainstream media last week, links between the men thought to behind the London bomb attacks and the Coca-cola company were exposed....
The four suspects in the London suicide bombings were young men who had lived outwardly normal lives in the northern English city of Leeds. Just hours before heading to London with two of the three other suspected bombers, Shahzad Tanweer, 22, had played cricket, his favorite pastime, and kicked around a soccer ball on the local sports field.
The previous evening, Tanweer, who had been studying sports at college, had greeted friends cheerfully as he drove his brand-new red Mercedes-Benz. [source: Washington Times 17/7]. Now he is dead and suspected of blowing himself up alongside London commuters on a Circle line train. One of four bombers who left at least 56 people dead.
Tanweer, whos Pakistani-born father owns a fish-and-chips shop, lived all his life in the city's Beeston area. He was a devoted athlete and studied sports science at Leeds Metropolitan University. It is reported that he planned to get involved in sports professionally.
He showed up twice a week for pickup soccer games, said a teammate who gave his name only as Saj. "He was normal. We used to drink Coke and Fanta together," revealed Saj in an seemingly inoccent statement which insanely could have far reaching implications!
Mohammed Answar, 19, a friend of Tanweer, was stunned by the revelation. "It's impossible. It's not in his nature to do something like this, he's is the type of guy who would condemn things like that."
According to a family source, Tanweer's mother has been "crying uncontrollably" since she was given the news. "She cannot believe what she has been told. She cannot speak 48 hours after being told the news by the police," he said.
The Press Association reported that Shahzad Tanweer's uncle said the family was "left shattered" and in disbelief. "It wasn't him. It must have been forces behind him." "It was total shock, I mean, it's unbelievable," Ahmed apparently told reporters.
The trashy tabloid 'The News of the World' tells a different story. They say that the uncle defended his nephew’s actions as a desperate "sacrifice". They claim he said that these were "desperate people" who were "not getting their rights" and so took "extreme action."
Tanweer’s uncle laid the blame at the feet of British Prime Minister Tony Blair and US President George W Bush, warning that they "should apologise, they should stop these injustices." and threatening that otherwise "there will be more".
The UK's soft drink market is huge (worth over £7 billion). Shockingly, colas make up 48% of the carbonates sector and Coca-Cola dominates with a massive 55% percent share (inc. Regular and Diet). With Pepsi taking another 21% chunk of the pie it leaves little scope for others. [source]
Chairman of Leeds Grand Mosque, Zaher Birawi, told the BBC that he feared possible reprisals. The Muslim Safety Forum has received reports of more than 400 attacks around the country including a fire bomb attack on a Mosque in Liverpool. Surprisingly there have yet to be any reports about attacks on Coca-cola vending machines or retailers.
According to an un-named expert in terrorism, no self-respecting Muslim fanatical Islamic fundementalist Mercedes driving extremist sucide bomber would be seen dead with a drink that sports an anti islamic logo (see http://www.mashi.com/columnists/editorscorner/2000/editor-may-00.htm and then http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/islam.asp).
"I feel angry", said Birawi. "There is no evidence, no indications that such wrong understanding is distributed within the community".
Why such a shock? Well, since the invasion of Afganistan the world's biggest soft drinks manufacturer has been targeted by Muslim campaigners because of its economic ties with Israel and because the imperialist 'war on terror' has made all American brands a focus for resentment in the Muslim world.
In 2003, the Muslim community began to root out the evil of killer-cola by launching competitors such as Mecca-cola and Qibla Cola, which by coincidence, shares same name as jihadi terror group in South Africa (see http://www.nzmuslim.net/article252.html or for a laugh http://beautifulatrocities.com/archives/2005/06/the_explosive_t_1.html). Sporting slogans like "Don't drink stupid, drink committed" the Islamic 'real thing' makes last weeks relevations about the link between the alleged bombers and Coca-Cola even more shocking.
The news may be no surprise to those aware of the connection between the murder of union leaders in Columbia ( http://www.colombiasolidarity.org.uk/cocacolacampaign.html http://www.thenewagenda.org/cvc_rally/transcripts/mark.html) or cases of chemical poisoning in India ( http://www.atimes.com/atimes/South_Asia/FB24Df04.html and http://www.inminds.co.uk/boycott-news-0422.html) and the biggest soft drink company. However, the news may be a considerable shock to those who did not know that Fanta was the drink of the Nazis! PROTEST AGAINST KILLER COLA
21.07.2005 08:53
Send messages of protest to Coca-Cola on the 2nd anniversary of the international campaign against the multinational for their crimes in Colombia.
FRIDAY 22 JULY 2005
- SECOND ANNIVERSARY OF THE INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN AGAINST COCA-COLA
MAKE YOU FEELINGS KNOWN- SEND MESSAGES OF PROTEST TO COCA-COLA
Two years ago SINALTRAINAL (the Colombian Food and Drink Workers Union) launched an international boycott of Coca Cola and all its products, in response to a brutal policy of terror and repression that Coca Cola had unleashed against their own workers in Colombia. Since 1994, 8 Coca-Cola workers and SINALTRAINAL union leaders have been assassinated by paramilitaries, who the evidence suggests, were hired by Colombia’s Coca-Cola management. Hundreds of other workers and union members have been imprisoned, tortured, threatened, disappeared or forced into exile.
The boycott campaign has been a success in many ways. Individuals and social and trade union organisations all around the world have pledged their support of the boycott (including UNISON, PCS and the Scottish Socialist Party). However Coke have refused to abandon their hard line, have refused to negotiate with SINALTRAINAL, and the repression against the workers has continued. Since the boycott started on 22 July 2003,
• Coke workers in Colombia had to go on hunger strike to fight mass sackings.
• Union Vice President Juan Carlos Galvis was injured in an assassination attempt.
• Union leader Luis Eduardo Garcia’s son escaped from a paramilitary kidnap.
• 4 members of union leader Efrain Guerrero’s family were slaughtered in their beds by paramilitaries
• Coke launched their seventh libel case against a SINALTRAINAL leader.
When the union launched the boycott campaign, they knew there would be a price to pay, and are relying on international support and solidarity to see them through to the end of their fight for justice. We have a moral obligation to support the workers of SINALTRAINAL.
SEND PROTEST MESSAGES ON 22 July 2005
On 22 July this year, please send messages of protest to Coca-Cola (an example is included).
Fax, email or telephone (or all 3) to make your feelings known.
Send messages to:
Tim Wilkinson, Director of Public Affairs and Communications Coca-Cola GB.
Telephone: 0800 227711 or 0208 237 3000
Fax: 0208 237 3700.

Dear Coca- Cola,
The International Boycott of all your products has been going for two years, and people across the world now know about Coca-Cola’s crimes in Colombia. However, I am very worried that instead of negotiating with SINALTRAINAL, Coca-Cola seems to have increased the repression against their Colombian workers. I will continue to boycott all your products, until Coca Cola has
• mitigated the pain of the victims by making reparations for damage caused.
• publicly recognise that it benefited from crimes carried out by paramilitaries against Coke workers.
• committed itself to not making any new attacks on the workers, and hand over to justice those criminals who carried out attacks on their behalf.
• negotiated with the union, a code of conduct to safeguard workers’ lives, in the presence of international observers.
Yours Sincerely

I am involved with the coke campaign, have done a lot of work on the issues, and have indeed advocated and introduced qibla as an alternative. I see absolutely no link what so ever between coca-cola and the london events. (as much as i wish there was!)
I think it is time for the users of indymedia to stick to news as opposed to half baked conspiracy theories.
However,
I would like to echo the call for protest against Coca-Cola tomorrow, fri 22nd July. See above Colombia Solidarity post for details.
