Uncle Sam to give Israeli settler families 1 mil each to relocate?

I read in the papers today that Ariel Sharon has just asked the United States for an extra $2,200,000,000.00 to cover the cost of relocating Israeli "settlers" away from the Gaza Strip.

Okay. I got out my calculator.

If the U.S. gives Sharon 2.5 billion dollars to help move 9,100 settlers, that's $241,758.24 each! For a family of four, that's $967,032.96 per family. How come we aren't giving almost one million US dollars per family to the poor displaced settlers in Rwanda? In Columbia? In Haiti? In Darfur? Or in Iraq?

And what about the people in New London, Connecticut that the Supreme Court recently kicked out of THEIR homes? Are they getting one mil per family too?

And what about me? Give me $241,758.24 for every member of my family and we will settle anywhere! But preferably in a condo on the Riviera.

PS: My friend Rich just pointed out, "Maybe because leaving Gaza was part of Bush's road map, he promised to pay for the withdrawal." But the BBC says that Sharon is requesting 2.2 billion dollars EXTRA. What does that mean? That the settlers are getting MORE than one million dollars per family? That I should ask for a condo on the Riviera AND a condo in Hawaii too? Help me out here. I'm confused.

PPS: If it only costs -- let's say -- $10,000 per settler to move them, does Sharon get to pocket the rest?

nothing is cheap these days. Also the israeli govt have to pay for the demolition of and removal of rubble from the current homes. It should be noted that this is at the request of the palistinian authorities.

The request is 'extra' because the US gives Israel $3bn a year anyway, although this was increased to $5bn for 2001, to help them 'fight terror'( how does one fight onself, I wonder?).
We in britain continue to support apartheid Israel in other, less obvious ways -
Fr'instance, who knew that the Met buy their ammo from Israel?

The technology on your computer was no doubt engineered in Israel and when you get old and frail and diagnosed with some unfortuntate disease the cure will no doubt have been researched in Israel.............better switch your computer off and make a note to your doctors.....

While its certainly true that Intel is an Israeli company, and powers many PCs, mine aint one of em.
A boycott against an apartheid, fascist entity, such as Israel, hinges critically on the public knowing of their misdeeds, and knowing which products to boycott.

As for the pharma-nazis, I wouldnt be at all surprised if the Israelis were ahead of the game in developing ever more nasty illnesses to tie us to their 'sole -cure' products for many years to come.

You hate Israel, all you do is slag them off. You probably hate palestinians as well. You seem to do nothing to stand up for them. All these ISM and so called do gooders just sit in the way. If you and everyone actaully did something instead of moaning the whole time Gaza would be in the same advanced position as Israel. I think Golda Meir said something along the lines that until the arabs stop hating israeli children more than they love their own, they would never be peace. Stop hating Israel, if you love "palestine" do something. and by the way Intel is a US company.

could not agree with you more. Lets just hope the palestinian state is not overrun by corrupt officials who wont let the country develop. In the past they have simply been mismanaged by the UN, Arab Leaugue and themselves.
