ACAB released after 5 nights in solitary.

Gary Lawson better known to some of us as ACAB was released today from Edinburgh sheriffs court after spending 8 days in saughton prison in relation to the carnival for full enjoyment in Edinburgh. ACAB and others (including a 16 year old boy) were held on remand since last monday and their cases were heard in a closed court with no members of the public or journalists allowed in. ACAB was placed in solitary confinement after alledgedly calling one of the prison guards a "Haggis Shagger". Almost all of those remanded after the carnival have now been released apart from those with outstanding fines or warrants.

Good to hear he's out. I understand he was arrested for doing absolutely nothing at all (like quite a few others). Hope this will lead to a successful suing of the cops and loads of money for ACAB and others.

What's the basis for the justification of closed courts?

Aren't 16 year olds held in Polmont rather than a real prison?

I love the fact that some of our peaceful arrestees had outstanding warrants and fines. And they wonder why some were remanded?

Closed Courts are standard practice in Scotland when the charges are serious according to the legal team. Young Offenders(YO's) are also held in Saughton prison on remand apparently though the lad should have been put on a wing with other YO's rather than an adult wing. Personaly speaking though I'd rather be on an adult wing over a YO. On an adult wing there is less macho bullshit etc as people want to do their time and get out rather than prove themselves the "big man".

How can this be justified?
He had just paid to travel to edinburgh to participate in a peaceful demo and was immediately detained upon leaving the station.
Is suspicion of breach of peace enough to justify a week in jail?
I think not.

No its not! Its nice to see that we have such a quality legal team. Are any of them actually familiar with Scots Law? Bet none have a practicing certificate. Lets get real lawyers.
