Has It All Come To This ?

kevin raymond | 11.07.2005 12:16 | London

The very cynical view of the t.v stations on the handling of the London bombings. Human beings are dieing and we are more concerned with showing the feckin footsie results right over the pictures of carnage and horror !

Has It All Come To This?

I've been knocked for six I can't get to work
All roads are shut, we're on full alert
The tube is in turmoil as are the streets
As medics and police cover bodies with sheets
The scene is of carnage, on innocent folk
As commuters leave stations choking with smoke
What this I see are they having a laugh?
They flash up the markets
We're down by a half

Soot covered people are hyper with angst
While men look for women
Who we're lost in the bangs
I see it, but really is all of this true?
The dow jones and footsie
Have just come in view
People are dieing out there on the street
They flash up the markets
How dare they, the creeps!

How many explosions, how many are dead?
Who were the culprits, by whom are they led?
How are we coping with all this abuse
Just flash up the markets
Before all the news !

The death toll is mounting
We can't tell you yet
How bad it has been
How much worse it will get
Poignant pictures come oh so quick
Then they flash up the footsie
It makes me feel sick !

Life is so cheap
Has it all come to this?
As an outrage in carnage
Where many more will perish
What can I tell you
What can I say?
Flash up the markets
To make it all go away !

Our value's have changed
We all are so driven
By possesion obsession
And all that we're given
Life that was precious is now in the way
Of the footsie and dow jones
Tell me, what do they say?

I'm a Londoner who is still in shock from whats gone on in the last week, but this tops the lot, as our city is echoing to the sound of sirens and smoke billowing out all around, on to our t.v screens comes a cheery voice to tell us about the markets and how this, the carnage is affecting them? have we really lost the feckin plot or what? People are dieing for Christs-sake and we're more concerned with a point on the feckin markets??? The t.v company should be bought to task and hauled over the coals alongside the hotels who doubled and trebled their room rates to Londoners who couldn't get home cos of the public transport shutdown. Name and feckin shame the money grabbing bastards!

Big shout goes out to all the boys and girls on the building site oposite UCH hospital who to a man and a woman were on the spot right away giving blood donations! Glad to see we stil have some caring human beings about instead of feckin parasites! Big Up to all of yer!

peace

one love

You need a London Authority Inquiry. & a recovery process which is transparent.

11.07.2005 13:58

you are one of countless who are in shock Kevin.
& because your trauma is based on "not getting to work", the collapse of your
normal quotidien urban environment, compounded by the infernal lottery results
of 50+ dead and 700 injured and then the mass reaction which guided by
media and state seeks to minimise panic, play the stoic, keep usual political
debate going. Your fear, your "terror" is dismissed.

Leaders say "we will not be terrorised by terror". Cliché minted words
which mean nothing to any commuter, who is terrorised. Or to any parent in europe
whose child is in London for the july surge in english langauge classes.

As a society, that of England and the UK and also of London
you need a public inquiry and transparent investigation.

One has been tabled for the uk parliament at westminster.
One may also be tabled for the London Authority.

As a londoner, you ought join with others to ensure that the London Authority
begin an inquiry regardless of whether Westminister opens one.

That the primary victims (dead and wounded and their families) are seen to
have a dignified public representative.

That all tell their story. This is an essential process and one which if
avoided by the British state or London authority will compound the psychological
suffering and trauma of the countless "victims of third and fourth degree".

Ask for that Inquiry.
Demand that inquiry.

There are many who never travel by tube, who never sit on a bus,
who have never walked shocked on the streets of london, who would prefer
for a many reasons that this whole event be "forgotten" or useful only to
narrow party political interests for both domestic and international policy.
Do not allow them to besmirch your suffering and that of all victims by
denying your right as a citizen of a democratic society to an open and transparent inquiry. So that "all questions might be asked, and some answers offered".
And then you get memorials. It took "an anonymous donor" two weeks to pay a stoneworker a few hundred euros to carve a memorial in Barcelona to the victims of Madrid,
its at placa de vila de madrid where the roman cementary is, and every year it sees its wreaths and candles and vigils.
Because true victims of terror, do not forget.

terrorised by terror [tm]

The PM's words are sickeningly banal

notice this seemingly unrelated event

there is a new TV show on
called spelling Bee

hosted by
Chris Tarrent

morphed with the stylistic gloop of TV gameshows
and celebrity -

this is
a celebration of the 'English' language
as popularised patriotism

as 'western value system'
