Why?

What would getting a million people onto the streets of London acheive in your mind? Go on, explain please, this could be interesting.

OK.

11.07.2005 11:35

As long as it is a march against Bush's and Bliar's illegal wars, which provoked this.

Doug.

Why not in/for Bagdad?

11.07.2005 11:41

Why don't we do such demonstration in Bagdad, or Fallujah, or Kabul, or Ramallah? Why not for the people dying there day by day? Well, maybe they are less human beings than Newyorkers, Londoners or Madrileños.

Given that tripe-odd,ex-lax and their assorted retinue of aliases are vehemently opposed to this line of action-i would feel that it is in the collective interests of humanity to support, applaud and participate in this suggested course of action.cui bono.

Is this organised by the BNP?

11.07.2005 11:53

Is this organised by the BNP? "National Pride" soilidarity with the authorities? What is this shit?

cui bono?

Mary Mary quite contrary. They said this so I'll say the opposite. Ner ner ner, ner, ner ner?

Anyone else want to have a go explaining why this march would be a good idea. I'm not, as stated above, against such an occurance per-se, I will just need a better reason than copying spaniards.

Whether a "stimulating actions" US P2OG type initiated atrocity (to maintain UK troops in Iraq) or not, the effect among an the better educated (than US) population will be to increase demand for withdrawal of UK troops now, as happened in Spain.

 http://www.markcurtis.info
Author of the book "Web of Deceit: Britain's Real Role in the
World," Curtis said: "Two weeks before the invasion of Iraq, Blair was
presented with an intelligence report saying that an invasion of Iraq would
increase the likelihood of an attack on the UK." Curtis is also the former
head of the World Development Movement.

Defining that "better educated population" ... Faux news helps us define it thus....

Fox News host John Gibson stated one day before the attacks that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) "missed a golden opportunity" when it awarded the 2012 Olympic Games to London because if France had been selected to host the games, terrorists would "blow up Paris, and who cares?" Following the London attacks, Gibson reiterated that the IOC should have selected Paris instead of London because the British should "let somebody else be worried about guys with backpack bombs for a while."

From the July 6 broadcast of Westwood One's The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly, guest-hosted by Gibson:

GIBSON: By the way, just wanted to tell you people, we missed (sic) -- the International Olympic Committee missed a golden opportunity today. If they had picked France, if they had picked France instead of London, to hold the Olympics, it would have been the one time we could look forward to where we didn't worry about terrorism. They'd blow up Paris, and who cares?

From the "My Word" segment of the July 7 edition of Fox News' The Big Story With John Gibson:

GIBSON: The bombings in London: This is why I thought the Brits should let the French have the Olympics -- let somebody else be worried about guys with backpack bombs for a while.

March against terror and in support of Blair!

11.07.2005 14:46

The trouble with any march against last week's outrage is that the government controlled media will almost certainly spin it as a march in support of the government.

I can see where you are coming from but due to our Britishess that Tony Blair say is so wonderful, us Brits we can't be ass to do anything "community" wise really, it's not in our nature.

We are too busy watching T.V. and such like.

Anti-war march only

11.07.2005 16:41

In solidarity with the authorities - are you feeling alright?

And yes it will be spun and spun by the media propagandists if this happens - unless it is clearly an anti-war march. I remember John Prescott talking at the Labour conference and saying that he marched with the people of Madrid -- IIRC he even said he chanted along with 'the people united, we'll never be defeated'. Bloody cheek. So even the Madrid march, with the peace flags all over the place was used by the New Labour machine.

If it's an anti-war march/Blair resign march fair enough. Any other bollocks and you can shove it.

madrid million march

11.07.2005 17:27

Yes, two million people marched in spain the day after the madrid bombing.

And yes, it was seen and praised as a huge demonstration of support to the goverment.

And two days later, this same goverment was not voted, and defeated and gone.

So...

i don't think the madrid million march is the example to follow. It was organised by the goverment to pretend that ETA and basque independentism were to blame for the attack. Some people believed them and went there to cry it out. Some of us were reading your (british) papers and listening to your radios and thought different. And we went there to demand the goverment to tell the truth. But from above we looked all the same, "a big march against 'terrorism'"

The following day, far less people went out in the streets and kept walking and shouting and crying till 4 am and finally they had to say the truth we all already knew. We cried for the irakis dead by our bombs, we knew there were the same bombs thrown by the same people.

And they were not voted, and they were defeated and they were gone for good.

All my love for you people in London hurt by those same bombs.

"CAN WE ORGANISE A DEMONSTRATION IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE

"BRING FLAGS AND SONGS AND NATIONAL PRIDE"

Oh, fuc* off!

Anti war, anti terrorism

11.07.2005 19:26

thanks for all the comments, particularly the one from madrid - solidarity from the uk to all those who were killed, their families and their friends

the idea of the march is

anti terrorism

and therefore anti war

it's anti war

and therefore anti terrorism

bring flags and songs and (inter) national pride

it has nothing whatsoever to do with the existing leaders, unless they organise it (is this likely?)

since when did our prim ministers have a monopoly on our thoughts and our media?

if it was an organised event it would need to be in conjunction with the authorities because it could be an obvious target and we've seen enough killing - from london to baghdad, from madrid to grozny

it's disgusting, all of it

in the face of climate change we need to unite as human beings

and give up these wars of terror and wars on terror

and fight for the survival of our planet and each other

a general strike on the day would be fun!

if you don't like the idea, don't do it

let's get it off the ground

17.07.2005 11:40

So when's this anti-war, anti terrorism, anti-Blair/Bush, unifying march happening?
I absolutely agree with the view that in the face of global warming and growing global terrorism (incited by shortsighted and downright hateful Western 'leaders') all of us just have to stop pretending that 'it's going to go away and sort itself out', get off our lazy capitalist asses and seize our potential as thinking people with a voice and the capacity to act in order to bring about change! And not just at some point in the future, NOW!
So, Yes to a general strike on the day of the march, brilliant idea!
