G8 debriefs

k | 09.07.2005 11:57 | G8 2005 | Free Spaces | Repression | Social Struggles | London

Think it would be really good idea to come together really soon to debrief and document our mobilisations in Scotland....

We must collectively share and learn from our experiences so we can take forward good tactics and drop our modify those that nolonger work.

I suggest that social centres provide space during the next week for meetings to go over the whole G8 experience and ensure that prisoner support is an ongoing priority.

London at the rampART?

Nottingham Sumac?

Brighton at Cowley?

Manchester at Basement?

Bristol at Kebele?

etc.

Lets not let the energy crash now as is usual after a major mobilisation.

Suggestion

I suggest as well that something should be done to gather videos, photos, written evidences and testimonies, etc, about police abuses and/or violence during this G8 summit. Maybe Indymedia could be the good tool for this. Indeed it seems that during this week a lot of rules, human rights or basic laws were deliberately broken by police forces or prison guards... do you think they will get away with this and do the same (or worse) for the next protest, wherever it will be ?
Waiting for propositions so as to how to do this,
M.

Good idea

We do have a lot to talk about and share and we will no doubt all have been involved in different elements and need to hear the other persons view before we can form our own judgments.

I'd like to discuss many things and see where it takes us and what we can learn that will help us to cope and be more effective at future mass mobilisations.

For example, lets talk about how we managed to facilitate our own media. Was it effective? What did it achieve? Was it worth the effort?

And what about the role of the so-called balck bloc and the relationship with locals in Stirling.

What about the level of legal advice and backing in regard to police abuse of power with Sec 60 etc.

Mondays Carnival... what did we achieve? What did we hope to achieve?

Wednesday - wicked blockades, but could we have done more? What happened in Stirling?
And what about the march? Was that a victory or a set up?

Prisoner support, how do we progress with this?

Holding the police to account. Lets use the fuckers!

Following up in the media, how and why?

LETS GET TOGETHER WHILE IT'S ALL STILL FRESH IN OUR MINDS

Share our experiences and grow stronger

09.07.2005 20:53

I have just returned home from being 10 days at the eco village (and around the area) during which time I personally witnessed and talked with many others who had also the witnessed repeated police repression and intimidation and flagrant disregard of basic legal rights to protest I absolutely agree that we must share our experiences and learn from them and social centre have role here in getting groups together .

All bets are off as it seems clear that the police are simply going to ignore what little remains of civil and human rights in this so call free society.

Also WE MUST have positive and immediate prisoner support.

Enough is enough - if the police tactics were intended to intimate and scare us they haven’t worked and they never will.

When will the majority be back?

10.07.2005 21:20

I take it that pretty much all those currently on remand will be have their first court apperance on Monday and be bailed then. I guess then that most people will be back by midweek. If this is so, how about a preliminary debrief on friday evening?

Discussion plus films and food?

Forum for outcome of debriefs

17.07.2005 13:41

Would it be possible to set up a link somewhere in this section, as a forum to be kept clear for any minutes written up from the regional post-G8 meetings?

That way a greater spread of information/ experiences, and outcomes/ feedback could be shared, and wouldn't rely on everyone from every meeting having the time to post on here.
