2 autonomous activists climbed onto the bridge that traverses Leith Street, connecting the St James Mall to the car park, in Central Edinburgh at 5pm today.

On a day awash with stories of 'terror', the activists sought to remind us that 8th July was still a day of action on climate change.

The action took place hours after the the G8 Communique was released at lunchtime. The communique makes clear that the leaders intend to continue to offer nothing more than rhetoric on climate change.

Once settled, Karen 23 and Andy 37 dropped a banner from the criss-crossed, enclosed metal bridge which read "Coming soon, millions of ecological refugees, to a city near you"

"We wanted people to look to the sky on this beautiful day and remember that our precious climate is in chaos" said Karen

"There's no denying the world is in crisis and yet the G8 leaders continue to offer us nothing at all to stop that"

The activists had only intended to stay for half an hour but had been instructed by the police not to move for safety reasons. Three fire engines, 8 police vans and one ambulance completed the overzealous response to the pair's action. This, complemented by the road closure, served to attract a large crowd of onlookers from which the "No rocks? No photo!" press brigade were larely absent.

The pair were arrested and taken to an unnamed police station at 7.30pm. The charges also remain unknown.
