Over 400 people arrested during a day of blockades and actions against the G8 summit. Prisoner solidarity demo Thursday 10.30am

Today, over 400 people have been arrested during blockades and actions against the first day of the G8 summit. The arrested have been taken to police stations in Perth, Dundee and Edinburgh and will start appearing in court tommorrow.

Already, on Monday 4th July, at 'the carnival for full enjoyment, in Edinburgh, there were 125 arrests. Many people were deported from Scotland and 17 people remain in prison. Men are being held in Saughton prison in Edinburgh, and women are being held in a prison in Stirling.

Tommorrow, Thursday 7th July, will be a day of prisoner solidarity. At 10.30 am there will be a solidarity breakfast outside the Sheriff's Court in Chambers Street, Edinburgh where those arrested in Edinburgh will be appearing. This will be followed by an assembly at 12pm outside the court to decide the location of the next demonstration, which will follow at 6pm.

Solidarity with the prisoners is urgently needed. We also require donations of money for prisoner support.
