Class War Statement

Jaz Wallm | 06.07.2005 13:35

On behalf of it's members and in solidarity with all those active in Scotland.

CLASS WAR STATEMENT ON CURRENT EVENTS.

Its Great At the G8!

Class War commends the protestors who have taken the battle to the police and authorities in Scotland, in an attempt to prevent the G8 gathering at Gleneagles. In particular we were delighted to see the significant number of people who spontaneously got involved in action and activities against the police in Edinburgh on Monday 4th July. Many shoppers, passers by and local "teams" did not need to ask themselves whose side they were on when they saw it kicking off.

The G8 summit exists for only one reason - to secure the positions of the leaders of the G8 nations. They may talk of national interest, the greater good of all humanity, and even of suffering in Africa, but that is all it is - talk. The sooner all this nonsense is swept away.

For more details on the actions against the G8, see one of our members blog at:  http://www.londonclasswar.org/Blog.htm

Get Lost Geldof!

Being called a bunch of losers by Sir Bob Geldof is praise indeed. This is after all the man who 20 years ago led Live Aid to end suffering and starvation in Africa.

You might not have noticed Bob, but the situation in that continent, and indeed any other, cannot be resolved by charitable donations. The people throwing bricks at the police in Scotland can work that out, yet Sir Bob, for all his wealth and influence, cannot.

So 20 years after the failure of Live Aid, Sir Bob repeats his actions of 20 years before. If only he pleads, people can make politicians listen. This from a man who grovels to George Bush and Tony Blair, to the extent that criticism of both men was expressely banned from the Live8 gig in London. So much for Bob's version of democracy.
Worse, Geldof appears unable to recognise that far greater number of people mobilised world wide in 2003 to lobby politicians against the invasion of Iraq. George and Tony did not listen then Sir Bob, so why should they now?

In opposing direct action, Geldof is at least consistent. When protestors in Genoa were beaten, tortured and in the case of Carlo Guilani murdered by the police, Geldof stood full square behind the Italian authorities.

Bob Geldof is part of the problem, not the solution. He is part of the problem at the G8 demonstrations, and he is increasingly part of the problem in Africa. By promoting charity, and "fair" trade Geldof is only offering Africans what they have had for generations.

The only question that remains about Sir Bob is why he is outside the G8, not inside serving the drinks.

Class war = Three sad Trots whose dreams were crushed years ago to the cries of ridicule and jeering from the rest of the world

Laughing

Not that i'm any fan of Geldof...

But please refresh my memory as to how throwing bricks at police in Scotland is directly more beneficial to starving Africans than raising charitable donations? I realise its not the solution to the problem, but if I was dying of hunger I sure as hell know which i'd rather have.

As a lifelong Scottish Socialist and activist against Nukes, War, Poll-tax, fascism and racism I'm fed up with the constant comparison between direct action and a few English and Rest of Europe middle -class neds having a war with English coppers in our country

We like many other millions of Scots have been totally alienated by the two parties:-

New Labour Geldof MPH party
Football fans under a different guise Party

A more intelligent and effective strategy is needed and this includes harnessing the yobs within our own ranks!

Me and two working class mates are taking the day off today to take action of our own.

Edinburgh Socialist

is edinburgh socialist a class in its own right?

So if you are middle class you cannot take part in direct action, even if that is what you have been doing? And if you are working class then everything you do is part of the class struggle? And how are you judging these class boundaries? By wealth? accent? haircut? Glad to see you are not making too many assumptions or judgements.

no class

hahaha nice one cw

"But please refresh my memory as to how throwing bricks at police in Scotland is directly more beneficial to starving Africans than raising charitable donations?"

Apparently a youth threw a brick at the coppers after being provoked -- is this single action supposed to represent the masses of other protestors engaging in direct action? No one's arguing that charity won't lessen the suffering of a handful of Africans in the short term; problem is, some of us are interested in changing the sytsem itself, allowing Africans (and everyone else) to run their own affairs, not not merely throwing them some crumbs from the loaf of bread we just finished stealing from them. Geldof has no right to call ordinary working people being brutalized by police "idiots" simply because they respond in kind; the only idiot I see here is Geldoff himself, the victim of a corporate public relations campaign and media stunt designed to divert people from the real movement (and the war crimes being perpetrated by certain members of the G8) that he and other limousine liberals have attempted to hijack.
