Situation in Stirling

Situation in Stirling, 9.30 am.

Stirling - 9.30 am.

As of 9.30 am, the situation in Stirling was calming, but the town is swarming with police. The Bus Station is apparently completely shut down, and the train station is surrounded by police. They are stopping and searching anyone who comes in and out of the station - apparently many people who are trying to get near Gleneagles via train are being told "that train is full". Movement of people across country and across roads is still causing disruption - it is sporadic and confused!

Well given that I have close family in Auchterarder, I can only sympathise with the police. If people turn up and start acting like arses THEY ensure *no-one* can demonstrate not the Police.

arrival in the morning

we arrived 2am this day and ran into several controls. first at a service station 20 miles south of glasgow when we accidentially drove into an one-way road. the police checked our car, pockets, but all the time with a smile their face :/ in glasgow we were searching the convergence space and were stopped by f.i.t. in (i'm not sure if about this abbrevation, they were in civil and people told us, they're one level above the police -) -> they also were veeerrry friendly (maybe theyre looking forward to see us beaten this week *gg*) and escorted us to the motorway direction sterling. i'm from germany and really felt weird 'cause of the (hypocritical?!?) "friendlieness" of these units. just after we moved into the camp in sterling, the entrance was blocked by the police...

Update - 11.30 am

06.07.2005 11:27

Update as of 11.30 am.

Stirling has now almost entirely calmed down - the police presence has become relatively minimal (though doubtless there are some units 'lying in wait') with only about ten officers guarding the train station and checking IDs/destinations etc. There was an attempt to block traffic from living the Horizone by a police line (at about 10.30 am) but by 11.20 or so the traffic was flowing freely again...

Update - 4.00 pm

06.07.2005 15:27

There is now a large police presence in the Morrisons car park (next to the burger King that got trashed) who are randomly harrassing people travelling near the camp. Apparently some businesses in Stirling are now boarded up, and commerce in the city centre has stopped.

UPDATE - 9:00PM

Shops closed? Business undone? TGumble weed blowing thru the streets?

Sorry for the fact that this may be bad news to some but Stirling is now back to normal, shops have re-opened, the local people are going about their daily business as any other usual Wednesday evening.

I also hear that the locals are in the motions of trying to get rid of the eco-camp from Stirling....wonderful news isn't it!

You know us Scots people are tough old cookies!
