Dungavel Protest, Tues July 5

The international day of protest at Dungavel, Immigrant Removal Centre, goes ahead tomorrow Tuesday July 5. This will be a day of action, including noise protest, music, information stalls and more.
The protest happens as hundreds of Zimbabwean's detained in Britain and threatened with deportation are on hunger strike.

The Home Office has cynically moved all detainees out of the prison “for the safety of everyone at the centre - detainees and staff alike.” They may have closed Dungavel for the day, but thousands will gather to demand that the prison and all others like it at closed down forever.
The protest is not just about Dungavel. Dungavel is only one of hundreds of migrant prisons across Europe, and the protest calls for an end to detention and deportation, for the rights of all people to flee the persecution, poverty and wars which result from the policies of the G8.
A fleet of buses will take thousands of protestors from George Square, Glasgow, with a shuttle service running from 9:30am onwards.
Buses from Edinburgh leave Waterloo at the east end of Princes Street 9:30 and 11:30 am.
Buses cost £5 waged, £3 unwaged, with asylum seekers and refugees going free. Many tickets have been sold in advance, but there are still spaces on the buses. If you can't get on one of the Edinburgh buses, travel to Glasgow for the shuttle service from George Square.
Regarding travel by road, the only way into the Dungavel area will be via the A70 (join it by leaving the M74 at the Douglas turnoff) and through Muirkirk. The road through Strathaven by the usual A71 route will be blocked off for the day.
