The tour ended at the Cre8summit Garden at 5pm.

Looks fun.

Shame about the 2 blacked out scarves over their faces characters as you walked through the precinct. I don't see too much tear gas around. They'll just alienate people.

masks, the camera-shy and avant-garde policing

The final picture is actually after the tours ended, when the groups came together and began to head out of the city centre towards the Cre8 community gardens to party in the sunshine.

It had been an interesting and informative day of touring. Tour groups eventually growing into a bit of a mobile street party with samba bands and the sound system. The polis were cool about this, even though they had said "street processions" were banned.

But as we headed out of town the knuckleheads of the Metropolitan force from London arrived and for some reason started harassing people - pushing, shoving, and filming/photographing. Which may explain why some folk decided to cover their faces.

Now, I know they are also up here on holiday (I hope they found the tour useful) and would like to take some snaps back for the album, but taking pictures of fellow tourists like that is just plain rude, so you can't really blame people for being annoyed and/or camera-shy.

But really, despite the ridiculous numbers of polis deployed to follow a bunch of tourists on an organised tour of the city, it was a great day out, in good spirits. And the men in uniform also played their part and provided the tours with a laugh:

Somewhat missing the point of the Make Borders History tour of migration controls, a police cordon was thrown around Borders bookshop to prevent the tourists making books history or something. I think they call it "intelligence". Great stuff. As the Herald newspaper reported today: "Glasgow was home to some of the finest in international avant garde protesting"

at home I feel like a tourist
