immigration deport a man awaiting Medical Foundation examination

megan redmond | 28.06.2005 03:30

immigration sank to new cruel depths yesterday (Monday)

Joao Paulo Cassongo was due to be examined by a doctor from the Medical Foundation at 4.30pm yesterday. He was very excited as he had waited months for this. The examination was to document his torture in Angola. The doctor arrived at 4.30 and was made to wait in a room. Joao was hidden from her. immigration had sent 7 of their hired thugs, known as escorts, along with lots of cameras and equipment, a few hours prior to the appointment. Unknown to him or any of his friends, immigration had plans to remove him by force back to Angola on the same day. As far as I know he has gone. He has no money, few clothes and is a very sensitive, vulnerable person. He hates war, cruelty or violence, all of which he has experienced to excess in Angola and here in the uk. The cold, cruel barbarity of immigration is played out every day I know. What is never accounted for is the human cost to broken families and friendships.

Disgusting

This is horrific. I worked with asylum seekers for years with local councils and then with charities and in the end was stopped from doing my job of helping people by the goverment. This sort of brutality by the state doesn't surprise me- we need to campaign for each and every person who is being treated in this sick way. People who have been tortured in their own countries are then treated like scum here or sent back to be tortured again. The British government is no better than the ones these people are running from
