THE FIRST meeting of a new monthly forum for local community and campaign groups in a West Sussex seaside town has been chalked up as a success.
Worthing Alliance met on Thursday June 23 in the upstairs room of a friendly local bar, The Rest.
About 30 people heard representatives from various Worthing groups give an update on their activities and concerns. These included the Worthing NO2ID campaign, Save the Worthing Dome, Worthing Tetrawatch, Protect Our Woodland! and Worthing eco-action.
There was then a longer presentation on the forthcoming anti-G8 protests from representatives of Oxfam/Make Poverty History and Worthing's ShuttheG8, part of the Dissent! network.
The next meeting will be on Thursday July 23, 8pm at The Rest, Bath Place, Worthing, with a report back on the G8 shenanigans and a discussion on "After G8, what next?".
