Across the world millions have marched and raised their voices for peace and an end to war and imperialism. At the G8 hundreds of thousands will demonstrate against poverty and the misery it causes. In France millions have spoken out against a European neo-liberal nightmare charter. Our movement is starting to find a voice and demand respect for its ideas. It rejects the racism and the Islamophobia of our so-called leaders Bush and Blair. The victory of George Galloway MP and the votes for Respect point to the birth of a new left. Marxism 2005 is where those voices will come together to discuss and debate the world we live in,and how to change it.
These five days offer a unique chance for the movement to tally our progress and plan our next steps, to look at our tradition and theories, and develop our philosophy of change. Nowhere else does such a range of speakers come together. Highlights will include meetings by Walden Bello, Trevor Ngwane, George Galloway, Lindsey German, Winston Silcott, Salma Yaqoob, Harold Pinter, Tony Benn, Alex Callinicos, Victoria Brittain, Richard Gott, John Rees, Steven Rose, Billy Hayes, Bob Crow, Mark Serwotka and Paul Mackney.
