(posted by richarddirecttv) | 22.06.2005 14:30 | Oxford

THURSDAY JUNE 30 - 7.30-9.30
FRIENDS MEETING HOUSE, 43 St Giles, Oxford

An evening for Rwanda:

*Talk by Vivenie Niragira

Vivenie Niragira is founder of Brighton based charity Rwandan Youth Information Community Organisation. She is about to return to the capital Kigali, to launch a youth centre (see below). This is a chance to hear about some of the positive things happening in Rwanda eleven years on,
as well as to reflect on the recent past.

*Short film: The Keepers of Memory by Eric Kabera.

This documentary commissioned to mark the 10th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide, poetically and dramatically explores the stories behind the brutal events that killed 800,000 Rwandans in just 3 months. At the heart of the film are the poignant testimonies of survivors.

*Rwandan food will be available at the start of the evening
served in the beautiful garden (weather permitting!) accompanied by Rwandan music.

ALL WELCOME. THIS IS A FREE EVENT.

*************
Rwandan Youth Information Community organisation is opening an information and training centre this July in Kigali to support youth, many of whom have lived through the 1994 genocide and conflicts of previous years.

Ryico's vision is to work with and reach out to the vulnerable youth in order to increase their potential of a better education, level of employment, and quality of life through providing information, training opportunies and access to existing youth services (www.ryico.org).
